I happen to be logged in to another one of my computers at the root directory level, so the updater found the copy of 1P on that machine. On all machines in my house I have an attached Mirror drive to which I clone my boot drive daily. The updater finds those also and insists that I delete them before the update proceeds. No other software updater that I know behaves this way. It should just update the copy of the software that is in the boot volume by default. This has bitten me innumerable times, and I am quite tired of it.

@newikner the problem you have encountered arises because of a problem with Apple's launchd service. There is a recent longish thread here about it, with some posts from AgileBits explaining the technical side. (I've linked to a post of mine where you might start reading through the thread.)
