Using password generator to update passwords. I am not getting the update existing login window. So I am going to the how to recover password process. I can copy from password log, but it is not pasting into login password field when editing. I can paste into another document, so copy is working, but paste is not working for me.

@kltrask: That is a very strange issue indeed. I'm not having any trouble pasting into the Password field while editing. Do you perhaps have some other software managing the clipboard?

First and foremost, you're quite a ways behind with updates, so please update 1Password from the Mac App Store (version 6.2.1 was just released), and then update OS X as well (10.11.4 has been available for a few weeks). It may be a software glitch, and restarting your Mac as a part of that process could help all on its own.

Please let me know how it turns out. I look forward to hearing back from you! :)

Ok, so I updated all software. No change in results. I came up with a work around that I will describe here:

Open 1Password. Go to site i want to change password on - indicate open and fill.
Site opens into my account. Indicate I want to change password. Brings up window.
Current password________ copy paste from 1Password
New Password________Click auto generate from widget. Populates both fields in website form. If I can I copy before I save. Hit save.
No message to update 1Password. Sometimes yes, mostly no.
Go back to 1Password, indicate edit. Paste into password field, sometimes it takes, not always.
Paste into notes. Copy and paste into 1Password. This works most of the time.

If I create a strong password from the main 1Password window, I copy that and paste into website. This is probably easiest.

I seem to be able to get through it with a lot of different copy pastes. Must be a reason that I am not consistently getting message to update existing 1Password record.

    Any help would be appreciated.

@kltrask: This will be website-specific, so we'd need to know the URLs where you're having this issue in order to test it ourselves and try to find a solution. You can post here, or use the Synapse website issue tracker to report the issue. And as a short-term solution, you can manually save the login.

Go back to 1Password, indicate edit. Paste into password field, sometimes it takes, not always.

Paste into notes. Copy and paste into 1Password. This works most of the time.

What method are you using to paste exactly? I think this may be the key.

New Password________Click auto generate from widget. Populates both fields in website form. If I can I copy before I save. Hit save.

Keep in mind that many websites won't allow copy or paste — in password fields especially. But more importantly, if you use the 1Password extension to fill a generated password, it will be saved as a Password item in the app. That way you can grab it from there (and convert it to a login) if needed.

Please let me know what you find!
