My husband and I want to use 1Password. I'd like to determine what to purchase.

We each have a Mac, an IPad, and an IPhone. Do you recommend individual licenses? A family or team license? Since we have 2 computers, would we each have a unique vault?

    Hi @marcia_miller,

Thanks for reaching out to us here in the forums with your question! I'll be happy to help you decide.

You can see a nice comparison of features on our new Pricing page, but I'd recommend a Family account for you and your husband. You'll each have your own individual vault as well as a shared vault (and any other vaults you'd like to create), and you'll get the latest version of 1Password on your Macs as well as Pro Features on your iOS devices. And if you sign up and add a credit card by Thursday, you can take advantage of our Special Launch Special and get some great perks, like your first 3 months free.

I hope this helps, but feel free to post again if you have any further questions for us. :)

I have a few more questions.
    1. My Mac is running OS X Yosemite (version 10.10.5). Do you recommend updating to El Capitan before installing 1Password?
    2. Do you recommend using DropBox rather than iCloud for our vaults?

    Hi @marcia_miller,

    Great questions!

    1. My Mac is running OS X Yosemite (version 10.10.5). Do you recommend updating to El Capitan before installing 1Password?

You can run the latest version of 1Password for Mac on either Yosemite or El Capitan. As far as I know, it works the same on both. That said, we always recommend updating to the latest software available.

    1. Do you recommend using DropBox rather than iCloud for our vaults?

Neither. With a Families account, the data is hosted on our own servers, rather than any third-party sync service, and sync is much more automatic and convenient this way. :)

    Hi Vee,

Thank you for your answers. One more question. Since the data is hosted on your own servers rather than any third-party service, what type of security is used for your servers? I am anxious to get started with 1Password, so I look forward to hearing from you.

    Thanks so much.

@marcia_miller: Indeed, when you use 1Password, AgileBits never has access to your data, regardless of the setup you choose. Even with 1Password for Families, your data is encrypted on your device, so all the server ever ends up with is an encrypted blob. And since the Account Key is created locally and your Master Password is never transmitted and only known by you, no one — including AgileBits — has the means to decrypt the data.

You can read more details on how all of this works in our white paper, and don't hesitate to ask any other questions yo may have! :)
