I have an iMac with El Capitan. Just downloaded 1Password 6 and it will not work, What to do?

I just purchased and downloaded 1Password 6 on my iMac with El Capitan OS. The down load hasn't taken and the program is still operating on 1Password version 3.8. What do I need to do to get the upgrade working? A secondary problem is that when editing an account name, website, username, password, etc., the data entry window goes blank and will not display any of the characters until you exit the window - this very frustrating when trying to edit any of these items. How to fix this? Final question: When clicking an entry, I frequently get an error window that says "NSInvalidArgumentException" What causes this? How do I fix it?

    Hi @dkhollenbeck,

I hope you don't mind but I've merged your two threads as they are referring to the same issue.

So the problems you've reported are sadly all to do with trying to run 1Password 3 for Mac on OS X 10.11 AKA El Capitan. Basically 1Password 3 for Mac is now old enough that it isn't compatible with the latest version of OS X. Once we help you get 1Password 6 running though this won't be an issue as these aren't present in 1Password 6 for Mac.

So you purchased an upgrade licence from us. Can you let us know where things started to deviate based on the steps below.

    1. Download 1Password 6 for Mac from our AgileBits Download page.
    2. If downloaded using the Safari browser you should have found you have a copy of the 1Password 6 for Mac application in your Downloads folder and it would have been titled 1Password 6.
    3. Move this copy of 1Password 6 to your /Applications/ folder.
    4. Launch 1Password 6 for Mac. It should say it has found existing data (see the screenshot below) and all you should have to do is click the Use Existing Data button to have 1Password 6 import your vault from 1Password 3 for Mac.

This is an important stage to reach. There is potentially still work to do in terms of our 1Password Browser Extension but getting the 1Password 6 application launched and showing you your vault is the first step.

If something isn't happening like this can you let us know where it first fails and what you see instead please.
