1Password is damaged and cannot open anymore how can I ensure backups and my data are safe?

I tried to open the application today but it doesn't open anymore. I receive a message with the following text: 1Password is damaged and cannot be opened. Delete 1Password and download it again from the App Store"

Before I follow the advice I would like to ensure that backups are safe and won't be deleted together with the application.

I cannot provide versions of the software as I don't have access to it anymore. However, the extensions both in the System menu and the browsers are working well.

@rcbaspineiro you might first try the solution mentioned in this sticky at the top of the forum.

If that doesn't work please try this:

    1. Drag the 1P app to the trash (don't use any app cleaner tool, which is likely to try to delete files you need to keep).
    2. Empty the trash and reboot.
    3. Re-download and re-install 1P.

So long as you follow those instructions that will not affect your 1P data. Note you should download again from the Mac App Store.

    Hi @rcbaspineiro,

Stephen_C is correct. All the support files relating to 1Password; preferences, backups and most importantly your vault are all in the Library folder and deleting the application bundle in your /Applications/ folder will never harm them as long as you don't use an app cleaner. The reason app cleaners are dangerous is part of their purpose is to delete all the support files an application creates which is the worst thing you could do to 1Password.

If you follow the steps set out by Stephen you should be fine. Please let us know how you get along

Hi Stephen_C, littlebobbytables, thank you for your advice, I tried the first method but didn't work. I had to uninstall/install the application. But once it was done and after restarting 1Password is working again, thank you very much.

You may close or mark this thread as resolved, since I don't see any control to do it myself.
