Changing to a different sync method on all my devices.

I've been syncing over WiFi because it provides the most security (imo) but the incessant error message is driving me crazy. I'm considering switching back to Dropbox, but I see my dropbox has a lot of old 1Password files and it would be a disaster if they overwrote my current files. Suggestions for how to change my Sync method safely?

    Hey there @karenrile,

I think I can help you with this.

When you say error messages, do you mean messages by it warning you that you have to unlock your Mac computer to sync?

It would be quite simple to switch over to DropBox without issues. Before you change your sync settings, make sure to simply remove all agilekeychain and opvault files that are in your DropBox folder. This way that old data you're worried about will be gone.

Then simply setup DropBox syncing on your Mac to create a new OPVault / Agilekeychain file with your current set of data. Once that is setup you can then set up Dropbox syncing on your iPhone and select the existing OPVault / Agilekeychain file you just created from your Mac and your data will sync together.

For more details you can check out this information here https://support.1password.com/sync-options/

Yes, that is what I meant, the incessant messages to unlock the sync. Thank you for these details! I may keep the sync over wifi, despite the horrid messages, because it seems to be secure (dropbox has its security issues.) But this is good info, and I should delete those dropbox files anyway!

  • @karenrile,

Your 1Password data is safe in Dropbox. :) Even if there were to be a breach at Dropbox, your 1Password data is encrypted before being sent there.
