How to avoid 1Password upgrade drama?

Along time ago I purchased iPassword directly from AgileBits. Happy with the program but cannot believe the upgrade drama. Today I went to change a an option in 1Password program and was told I have multiple copies installed. I was notified by the Apple  store of an upgrade and I guess I should have ignored it.

Why is 1Password unable to play well with Apple's  Store. This should not be a complicated problem. I also noticed that Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) can create a duplicate problem. Why is this a problem for iPassword? Is there away to delete the copy that I originally bought and repurchase thru the  Store. Signed - confused in New Jersey.

@Klaatu67 the problem you have encountered arises because of a problem with Apple's launchd service. There is a recent longish thread here about it, with some posts from AgileBits explaining the technical side. (I've linked to a post of mine where you might start reading through the thread.)

To make it quite clear, in this respect there's no difference at all between the Mac App Store and the AgileBits store versions of 1Password . You'll have exactly the same experience with the AgileBits store version in contending with this somewhat irritating Apple problem.

@Klaatu67: Indeed, 1Password simply doesn't have control over which copy of 1Password mini OS X (launchd) launches, and while having multiple copies won't necessarily always cause problems, not having multiple copies is the only sure-fire way to avoid having them.
