@juerg: We used to display a larger text area for notes, but since a lot of people have some really long notes that became unwieldy. It's important to be able to get an overview of an item when viewing its details without having to scroll for a great distance to find something. Making the Notes section so prominent would be great for Notes, but for the rest of the information in an item it makes it much more difficult to get to.
That said, it's certainly something we'll continue to evaluate going forward, especially as iOS matures and we have more tools to work with. Regarding the text size, it seems to be the same size or larger than most text on iOS (such as app names or Mail), but you can always use Settings > General > Accessibility to make text — or the whole interface — larger. Can you give an example of an Apple app with text that you find suits you better?
