Mac OS X Firewall and 1Password 6

Hello,

i use 1Password 6 on my Mac.
In the Mac OS X Firewall whitelist is for "1Password mini.app" the option "Allows incoming connections" enabled.

Is incoming connections for 1Password mini necessary?
Is it possible to spy my data while i use the WiFi Sync (Mac <> iPhone)?
Can someone or something (for example an app) connect directly to my data in the safe while 1Password or 1Password Mini is unlocked and the Mac OS X Firewall allows incoming connections for 1Password Mini?

Thanks,
Klixx

  • Hi @Klixx ,

Thanks for taking the time to write in. I believe I can answer your question:

It is necessary to allow incoming connections to 1Password mini. That is how the web browser extension connects to the mini.

However, we also employ additional precautions to make sure only the browser extension can connect. More information on that is here: https://support.1password.com/mini-extension-security/

I hope that alleviates your concerns. Please reply if you have further questions.

    Cheers,
    Kevin

  • Hi @ivanw ,

Depending on your firewall settings, you may not need that in your list. If it is set to allow signed software to accept incoming connections then that would explain why it still works.
