I have 2 machines I use at work - and mac at home and occasionally use mac at my friends - as well as my iPhone. can i use same 1password on all those

A single desktop license will cover all the Mac and Windows machines you use (though I'm not sure I'd recommend putting your vault on your friend's Mac), and the iOS app is free to download from the App Store and use with basic features, with an optional in-app purchase for Pro Features.
Another option is a 1Password Families account, which is a monthly subscription rather than a one-time purchase, and includes every 1Password app including Pro Features, easier sync between devices, and web access to your secure data.
