Hi, I've tried backing up my iphone 1password to itunes manually following the described directions on your help forum. However, I don't see any of my iphone applications (including 1password) available for me to select in itunes for me to backup.

Do I need to purchase 1password in order to backup the iphone to mac (itunes)? Or is there another way around the manual process?

Thanks!

    Hi @hellothere,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us. I'm sorry that you are having some trouble. You shouldn't need to purchase the Pro features in order to back up your data.

Can you take a screenshot of what you are seeing in iTunes on your Mac? I am wondering if you simply need to scroll down a bit. The way Apple laid it out, it almost doesn't look like there is anything to scroll down to. It can be a bit confusing. :)

You might also consider syncing with iCloud or Dropbox. Not only would you have the encrypted data synced to Dropbox or iCloud, but you could also then access it in 1Password for Mac. It would always be in sync. No need to manually do anything. :+1:

Let me know how you would like to proceed. I'm happy to help either way.

Thanks for the response. I just tried syncing with iCloud per your guidance, and it looks like it synced. However, is there a way to check that it is backed up to icloud to confirm? Just want to make sure there are no surprises in case I ever get a new phone and want to retrieve the data from icloud.

    Thanks!

    Hi @hellothere,

...is there a way to check that it is backed up to icloud to confirm?

The iCloud storage settings on an iOS device or Mac will show if your iCloud account contains 1Password data, but it doesn't indicate whether or not that data is up to date. It only shows that there's some sort of 1Password data in your iCloud account, so it's not a good way to confirm that your data is all there.

If you have another iOS device or a Mac, you can install 1Password on it and sync your data from iCloud. Assuming all your 1Password data shows up there, that means it's all stored in iCloud.

Please also note that your 1Password data in iCloud is a 'sync file' and not technically a 'backup'. Although the sync file can be used to restore your 1Password data to another device, backups and sync files are really two different things: A backup is a static, unchanging snapshot of your data from a given point in time, and exists strictly for recovery if needed. Any file that is constantly changing (such as a sync file in iCloud) is not a backup.

If you want to be absolutely sure you have a backup of your 1Password data in case something happens to your iPhone or your data in iCloud, you'll want to make sure you follow the steps here: Creating and restoring 1Password backups in iTunes (iOS)

It sounds like those are the steps you first wrote us about - if you're still having trouble finding your 1Password backup file in iTunes, we'll be happy to help you with that (as Khad said, it can sometimes be a bit confusing to find the right place for that in iTunes). Just let us know! :)

Hi Drew, I just reformatted my MacBook just to be thorough and tried to backup to iTunes once again. However, the 1password app is not showing up in iTunes as the directions provided. I've been now trying to backup 1 password now for a week, and am disappointed it's not working out. I realize a screenshot might be helpful, but all it would show is an empty space with no data for 1password in the applications in iTunes on my mobile phone.

Your directions are clear, however it's still not working. Is there any further help or assistance that someone from 1password can provide?

    Thanks

  • @hellothere,

I'm sorry things have not been working thus far. I'd like to ask you to create a Diagnostics Report from your iOS device:

    Sending Diagnostics Reports (iOS)

Attach the Diagnostics Report(s) to an email message addressed to support+forum@agilebits.com.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report(s) in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report(s) in our inbox.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so we can track down the report(s) and ensure that this issue is dealt with quickly. :)

Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks very much!

    Ben
