Display Favorites alphabetically
Favorites do not display alphabetically. This is a problem, since the whole point of Favorites is to be able to find something quickly.
I understand that it has something to do with the fact that Favorites are somehow associated with individual vaults, or something like that.
But to be honest, every other display in 1Password shows items in alphabetical order. I can even tag all my Favorite items, and then click on that tag (in the Organize tab) and the items display alphabetically.
1Password is one of the 2 most valuable apps I own, but I find Favorites to be very frustrating (for several reasons).
If there is some technical reason it can't be fixed, maybe it's time to take a different approach. For example:
- abandon the current Favorites architecture.
- let the "add to Favorites" button add a tag (like "favorite") to the item
- let the Favorites button point to that tag
That would be a simple solution. I already use a tag for all my Favorites as a workaround, but it would be great to be able to use the built-in Favorites function instead.
Thanks, as always, for such a great service.

@MDBrown I'm sorry about the frustration, and I can definitely see how you'd expect the Favorites tab to be sorted the same way as the rest of the app. I've passed your feedback along to the development team and hope we'll get a fix for this sooner rather than later :)

can we have the favorites appear in the main menu itself when I click mini? I want to access it quickly instead of going one more step into favorites folder - is that possible?
also - may I know if you are having plans to introduce automatic password changing?
also - I would like to take pictures of credit cards and loyalty cards using the one password iPhone app so that they are easily added ? may be some OCR option to make it better too?

@mindora_sundora those are great questions!

I just want to make clear that this is about 1Password for Mac or 1Password for Windows so our iPhone users aren't confused :) So far as that feedback goes I can see how that would be useful, but it would quickly make mini, well, not-so-mini if we were to display a bunch of favorites alongside the items matching a particular domain and the other categories that have to be opened.

We do not plan to introduce a feature like that at this time. 1Password doesn't communicate with the services you use; it simply stores and protects the information you add to it.

This is something a lot of people -- including us here at AgileBits! -- would love to see. Hopefully it'll come along soon ;)

I echo the fact that it is disappointing you cannot reorder favorites in 1password families alphabetically. Thinking of cancelling the subscription unless a date is provided when that feature is available soon.

Hi @KentFaust
Thank you for your input on how you would like to use 1Password and what you would like to see in it. I've added your vote to our tracker. I hope we'll get to see this feature in 1Password one day, and I hope that you'll stay with us to to enjoy it if it does :chuffed:

The problem is, I don't see this as a 'feature'. I see it as a bug.
'Favorites' is supposed to help me find my commonly used items faster. But having them appear in non-alphabetical order really makes the who thing useless.
I know you guys have a lot on your plate, but clearly some are more important than others.
I love using favorites, and it frustrates me that I can't use them in 1Password.

Okay. But it isn't. ;) A bug, by definition, is when something operates differently than the developers intended. This currently operates exactly how the developers intended. It may not be your desired behavior, but that does not qualify it as a bug.
unless a date is provided
We do not provide guarantees or dates for upcoming releases / features. Not all requests come to fruition, even ones highly in demand that our own team want & would use. My apologies, but I can't even say if any given request will happen, let alone when. I'm sorry if that is a deal breaker for you but that is how we operate.

As Pilar mentioned hopefully this is an improvement we can make in the future. :)

Is there any news on this request?
FYI, I used to have 1PW open in Favorites by default, but since it stopped listing in alphabetical order, I just stopped using it altogether.
Honest question: Does anyone at Agile Bits still use Favorites for themselves? If they do, can they offer any thoughts on how Favorites helps find a "favorite" faster than search or scrolling? After all, isn't that the entire purpose of marking something as a Favorite?

Not at this time.

I use them. I have thousands of items, and for example have ~20 different logins for Google.com. But only a handful of items that I frequently use are in Favorites.

Ben, thanks for the quick reply. But when you open your favorites list, as a customer, are you honestly satisfied with the usefulness? I love 1PW beyond words, but this one flaw in the UI frustrates me every single time I use the app. It used to be so easy to get to my most used items (almost 1 click!). But now it's a hassle.
What programmatic protocol determines the order in which favorites are listed? Is it order of creation? Is there anything I can do to hack the items to change their order in favorites? Please give me something helpful.

Good morning @MDBrown. Thanks for following up with us here. I totally get your frustration - especially with something that you'd like to use every day like Favorites. Let me give you a little bit of background information so you can understand how we arrived at where we are, and then talk a little bit about a potential workaround for you.
When the concept of favorites was first introduced to 1Password everyone lived in a single vault world. We figured that folks would have various sorting requirements for their favorites and decided not to impose any particular sort order beyond the one the customer defined for themselves. Favorites on iOS could be dragged around and put in any order the customer wished.
Fast-forward to today where many of us live in a multi-vault world (facilitated by All Vaults). Under the hood each item is given a "favorite index", which is a number that tells us what order in which it should be displayed. The problem we encountered (and have yet to solve) is that sorting a list of items from multiple vaults becomes an indeterminate operation: we just can't guarantee the order in which things will appear. Our current solution is to show the Favorites list sorted by vault when looking at All Vaults.
One workaround that you could try is to sort your items in an alphabetical order yourself by switching to each vault in 1Password and then sorting its Favorites list by tapping the Edit button in the upper right corner and dragging each item into the correct position. This actually may get you exactly where you want if you've only got a few vaults and only have favorites in one of them.
Let me know what you think or if there's anything else I can do for you.

@MrRooni Ok, that helped a lot. I only have favorites in my personal vault, so that resolved the problem for me. I didn't realize that each vault had its own favorites list.
Suggestion: you mentioned that each item gets a "favorite index" which works fine when viewing one vault, but creates potential conflicts when viewing "all vaults". So why not create a second "favorite index" for each item, which would only be referenced in the "all vaults" view? The second index number would be assigned when the user sorts favorites in the all vaults view, independent of the vault-specific index. Just a thought.

Definitely room for improvement there, especially since Favorites were designed before multiple vaults or the All Vaults view. We'll come up with a better way of doing this. :)
