Upgrade options for 1Password Family

I currently own the following:

  • 5 License family pack for 1Password
  • 1Password for iOS (single app)

I am interested in moving to 1Password family but I feel like I would be "repurchasing" parts of what I already have?? I am interested in the added sharing and permissioning available in 1Password family, wifi sync of shared vaults, as well as getting an additional iOS app install for my wife's phone.

What are my options? Am I stuck paying the $5/month or is there some discounted upgrade path?

    Hey @brianthesmith,

At this point the $5 per month option is your only option if moving to the Family account. I have not seen anything about a 'discounted upgrade path' on the website or in the Forums.

You should have wifi sync and shared vaults available on the existing apps. If you let us know what OS you are on and what version of 1Password you are using it will help us determine what is available.

There are five other aspects of the Family account to keep in mind:
    1. Syncing is built in by default. No more worrying with iCloud or Dropbox.
    2. Upgrades are included for MacOS, Windows, iOS, and Android.
    3. Access to your logins and data via 1Password.com from any browser in the world.
    4. 1 GB secure document storage.
    5. Up to 5 people can use the account. Add children or parents to the account to help manage their logins and documents.

    Does that help?

    Hi @brianthesmith,

The information that @rogerdodger gave you is correct, but I'd like to expand a bit on it. When we first launched 1Password Families we had a special deal thought specially for our existing users, it was available for a while but sadly it's over now. However, you still have one more option to enjoy 1Password Families at a reduced price! If you pay for your subscription yearly instead of monthly you get 20% off! Keep in mind that you can try 1Password Families for free for 1 month, so you can see if it's the right fit for you!

Please let us know if you have any other questions or if there's anything else that we can help you with :chuffed:

I was having issues figuring out a way to do Mac to Mac Wifi sync. Seemed to only be available via Dropbox which was a non-starter for me. I do not want vaults leaving my network. So you are saying that family sync does an out and back to AgileBit's network?

@brianthesmith, WiFi sync between two Mac's does not appear to be supported at this time. Additionally you can only setup one Mac to one iOS via WiFi sync to avoid conflicts.

There is a 3rd party option called ChronoSync that may be your answer although it sounds rather technical. This thread discusses that option - https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/36999/wi-fi-syncing-between-two-macs

In regards to the Family account sync: Yes the data goes out to the Agile Bits servers and then comes back to your other device.

Regarding any concern you have about sending your 1Password data off network I would advise you read the links on this page to learn more about how 1Password protects your data:

    Hi @brianthesmith,

With 1Password Families your data is saved on our servers, that's right. It's only encrypted on your device, and your Master Password or Account key are never set over the internet. The links that rogerdodger provided give details on how security is achieved on 1Password Families.

Now, about your issue, you have a couple of options if you do not want the data to leave your network at all. WiFi Sync is only available between one desktop and one mobile device at a time, so if you have an iOS device, you can work around it. You'd have to set up a configuration like this: Sync Mac 1 to iOS, disconnect, sync iOS to Mac 2, disconnect.

The last option is to use "Folder Sync" with a USB, you can see how to set it up here: https://support.1password.com/guides/mac/sync-folder.html. While this method is more complicated to set up and upkeep than cloud options, it keeps your data on your hands at every second.
