Edit - Reveal Password vs Generate New Password AGONY

I've done this THREE times! If I goto edit a password and want to reveal it, accidentlynhitting the generate new password will wipe your current password without warning!

You should not put the reveal password and generate new password next to each other for fat thumb users like me!

Msecure's edit function reveals password automatically which is nice.

If you hit generate new password maybe ask if they are sure before wiping the old one out or bringing up the options and then having them click to put new password into place.

If they are in agony like me and remember to shake to do an undo you should consider supporting that iOS feature.

I like to view my passwords as a memory refresher so I don't have to keep going into 1Password, but the reveal vs generate always makes me nervous! Please address this!

    Hi @Riptide360

I'm sorry to hear about the frustration with the layout of 1Password. I have some good news for you! It looks like you're going on to edit mode to see your password, but you don't need to. If you open the item that you want to see, and tap once on the password area you'll be able to see this:

You'll be able to reveal and see your Master Password with no risk of changing it and with less taps than before!

I hope this makes it easier for you to see your passwords and saves some agony! :chuffed:

If there's anything else that we can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask!

There is also the option to turn off passwords being concealed in Settings/Security .if you always want to have them revealed.

    Hi @tonydow

You're right, that's an alternate solution. I'd personally like much better the extra level of security against "accidental snooping" but it's up to each of us :chuffed:

Tony & Pilar - Great tips & comments. Thanks for posting my workaround options. I'll stop editing and just choose Reveal.

Is there a similar work around for always showing Reveal Password on the Mac? Currently I login to 1Password, search for my login and then click reveal on the password. I do this instead of copy because I'm trying to memorize my passwords, but thank God for 1Password for when I can't remember them!

  • @Riptide360

If you want your passwords to always be revealed in 1Password for Mac you can select View -> Conceal Passwords from the menubar. 1Password must be unlocked to change this setting. :)

THANK YOU Ben! I don't know why I thought this was a preference setting. So glad you pointed out that the feature already exists in the View menu!

  • No problem at all @Riptide360. :) If there is anything else we can do, please don't hesitate to contact us.

This problem exists on the Mac as well.

if you're in edit mode the icon to generate (and replace without warning) a new password is in the same place as the button to reveal/copy your password when not in edit mode.

There doesn't seem to even be a tooltip describing what the button does ... it's just up to the user to know what will happen when clicking the button. And in this case what happens (generate a new password and overwrite the existing password) is catastrophic.

Please consider a redesign or at least adding an alert "Are you sure you want to generate and replace your current password."

  • Hi @ThePaul,

Thanks for the feedback. I'll talk to our team and see if we can come up with some ideas for improvements here. In the mean time if you do this accidentally and need to not overwrite the existing password you can hit the cancel button to exit edit mode and changes will not be saved.

    Ben
