I have OTP setup for some accounts. This is working for me off of my iOS and Windows devices, but for some reason it does not show up at all in my MacOS. Neither the mini or full app does it show up.

1Password Version: 1Password Version 6.3.1 (631005) Mac App Store
Extension Version: Not Provided
OS Version: OS X 10.11.5
Sync Type: Dropbox

I have tried uninstalling 1Password off of my Mac, restarting and installing again from the App store. This has note fixed the issue. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi @alfredke

I'm sorry to hear that you're having some trouble with 1Password. Do you mean you have a 1Password Teams account, and you're having trouble adding the account to your Mac? If this is the case, then what you need to do is add the account to Mac too. You can find out how to do that here: https://support.1password.com/teams-families-migrate/#step-2-set-up-the-apps-and-import-your-data

If you meant something different by OTP, could you please tell us some more about it so we can help you better?

I hope to hear back from you so we can get you set up with 1Password! :chuffed:

    Hi @Pilar

No apologies for using an acronym instead of spelling out what I am having trouble with. I am referring to the One Time Password (aka. authenticator or two-factor authentication) feature. https://support.1password.com/guides/mac/totp.html I have added a One Time Password to some of the items in 1Password and this successfully shows up on my iPhone and on my Windows PC but for some reason on my Mac it does not show up.

@alfredke: No worries! I think Pilar may have been thrown off as I was by the first T (or lack thereof) in what we normally think of as TOTP, after the Time-based One-Time Password standard 1Password is using. It's nobody's fault I don't think, just that everyone is inundated with acronyms these days. There's gotta be a better way!

Anyway, I wonder if there's some sync conflict or discrepancy at the root of this strange issue. Please follow the steps in this guide, as it should help narrow down either case:

    Dropbox troubleshooting

I wonder if perhaps your Mac is syncing with a different vault, sync is disabled, or Dropbox is creating "conflicted copies" there (possibly due to a date/time issue). Please let me know what you find. I look forward to hearing back from you! :)

I hear ya about acronyms! There's just too many.

I have got through Dropbox troubleshooting and it does not appear that I have any Dropbox inconsistencies. Oddly, I have randomly discovered I can force TOTP to appear by adding a login to favourites. By doing this the account appears in MacOS as a favourite and TOTP shows up. I can remove it from my favourites list and it remains. So I guess for now my workaround is to just favourite everything I have a TOTP configured for.

    Odd.

    Hi @alfredke,

Thanks for getting back to us with those details! What you describe is certainly odd. Let's see if we can figure out where things are getting tangled up.

    • Which computer were these entries created on? Does the behaviour differ if you add the TOTP entry on your Mac, iOS, or Windows machine?
    • Instead of adding the item as a Favourite on Mac, what happens if you open and edit the entry - perhaps adding a note field? Does this prompt 1Password to display the full and correct entry?
    • Are any of your items in 'Resume Editing' mode? If you haven't saved an edit on an item, you will see a 'Resume Editing' button in the bottom corner of the details view instead of the 'Edit' button.

    Hi there,

Ok I have recreated the problem and it looks like I can see how the issue is occurring. I just setup an existing login with TOTP on my iPhone. After doing this, I noticed that dropbox did not show any new files synced except content.js. When I go to the login entry on my Mac it shows the old last modified date instead of today's date. By going back in on my iPhone, I hit edit and added a note to the login and this resulted in the entry updating and the note and TOTP appears on my Mac now.

Thanks @alfredke! That's extremely helpful in narrowing things down - in fact, it sounds like you're running into an issue we recently became aware of. The problem seems to be with the iOS version of 1Password, and our developers are currently working to solve it. I don't have a timeframe for when an update with a fix will be available, but this is currently one of the top priorities for our developers, so they're trying to squash this bug as soon as possible. I apologize for the inconvenience!

It sounds like you've found a couple reliable workarounds for this issue, so whichever one you prefer (marking a Login as Favorite or adding a note) will likely be your best option if changes aren't syncing from your iPhone to your Mac (or Windows PC). Fortunately, it seems that changes to 1Password on your Mac should have no problem syncing to your iPhone.

Again, I'm sorry for the trouble here! I've moved this discussion to our iOS forum in case you have additional questions about it. And of course, if you have other questions about 1Password, please don't hesitate to let us know! :)

Thanks so much! I love 1Password and I encourage all my friend and colleagues to use it. I'm so glad you guys listened to me and help troubleshoot this. The workaround is perfectly acceptable for me in the meantime. Stay awesome, eh!

    :)
