Allow WiFi sync of secondary vaults only (no primary)

I would like to be able to keep a local secondary vault and sync it between my mac and iOS devices via WiFi while keeping my primary one on iCloud only.
The only way to do this now is to
1. temporary disable iCloud sync on iOS,
2. start using WiFi sync,
3. re-enable iCloud on the primary.
and then repeat after every change to the secondary vault.

The interface makes it seem as though this is already possible, but it's not.

  • Hi @trampco,

Thanks for taking the time to write in. You are correct that this is not currently possible. Our focus right now is on improving 1Password Families and 1Password Teams. I'm not aware of any plans at this point to make improvements to Wi-Fi Sync or syncing via Dropbox or iCloud. That could certainly change in the future though, and I will pass the suggestion along to our development team for their consideration.

    Thanks for the feedback!

I've encountered another similar problem on both iOS and Mac. I've just signed up for the new individual subscription but I've noticed that if you set up 1Password to use your online service as the primary vault, then it's not possible to add any existing standalone vault (iCloud, Dropbox, local). It's only possible to do so if the primary vault is already standalone.

In other words, now I have to log out from my 1Password account, then add a Dropbox vault, then my 1Password account in order to use the two syncing options.

I get that your focus is currently on your subscription offering but this workflow is really flawed and not seamless at all.

    Hi @trampco,

What you mention is true for 1Password for iOS, and we’re working on improving that, but it is possible to add local vaults to 1Password for Mac, even if you’re signed in to your 1Password account.

In 1Password’s Preferences > Advanced, select the option ‘Local Vaults’ and you will be able to create vaults outside of your 1Password account.

    I hope this helps!
