    Hi @sailorsaml,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulty activating 1Password 6 for Mac!

You said you're trying to use a "serial number" to activate 1Password 6, but starting with 1Password 4 for Mac, a license file is used for activation instead of a license number. Please take a look at this knowledgebase article for some more information about that: If you see “Trial Expired” in 1Password

I tried searching our system for the email address associated with your forum account, and it looks like you have a license for 1Password 3 for Mac, but not version 4/5/6. If you think you may have purchased an upgrade to version 4/5/6 from the AgileBits Store under a different email address, you can have your license resent to you from the "I lost my license" section at the bottom of our support site (or from the above knowledgebase article).

Or is it possible you purchased 1Password for Mac from the Mac App Store? In that case, we wouldn't have that information in our own system, but you can simply reinstall the Mac App Store version of 1Password (the "Trial Expired" message only appears for the AgileBits Store version). Just launch the Mac App Store, make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used to make the purchase, and reinstall 1Password from the Purchased section.

If you never upgraded your 1Password 3 license to a 1Password 4/5/6 license, you can enter your version 3 license code on our Upgrade Store to see your upgrade discount.

Alternately, instead of upgrading your license, you can sign up for a 1Password account, which (among other benefits) lets you use the 1Password app on all supported platforms for no additional charge, and includes free future upgrades: https://1password.com/sign-up/

Hopefully this helps, but please let us know if you have more questions. Thanks! :)

So, is there any reason just to purchase the single license? It looks like that the 1password acct at $2.99/month will work for BOTH my laptop and my desktop, is that correct?

Yes, but the licence version also works for both.

It's really a matter of which model you prefer (subscription where you never pay extra for upgrades, licence where there may be upgrade fees, etc), whether you like the extra features of the subscription version.

    Hi @sailorsaml,

Danco is right. A 1Password license can be used on as many desktop computers as you personally use, on either the Mac or the Windows platform, but so is the 1Password account, and there are a lot of nifty features included in the account subscription. It really comes down to your preferences.

The links that Drew provided should help to explain what’s included in a 1Password account, but we’re always here to help if you have any questions!
