Wordpress login URLs not recognised properly

I have a lot of Wordpress websites that I take care of and therefore also have a lot of logins for wordpress backends in 1Password.

What I notice is that whenever I go to any wordpress website, usually www.websitedomain.com/wp-login.php or www.websitedomain.com/wp-admin, 1Password always shows me ALL wordpress backend logins I have and I then have to manually select the one I want which is often in the "Show X more items.." dropdown.

Its like it is not looking at the URL properly but just recognises something to do with Wordpress.

Can you make 1Password more sensitive in that area and make sure it shows me only one (the correct) login.

Best, Armin.

    Hi @seltzdesign,

Thanks for reaching out to us for help with this! And thank you for the screenshot, it's very helpful for us. The way 1Password matches Login items to the current website and which order the matching Logins are displayed can be fairly confusing, but I think I can help explain what's going on.

What I notice is that whenever I go to any wordpress website, usually www.websitedomain.com/wp-login.php or www.websitedomain.com/wp-admin, 1Password always shows me ALL wordpress backend logins I have...

The basic way it works is that when you go to a website and then open 1Password mini / browser extension, if there are multiple Logins for that site, they're sorted by the URL first, and then alphabetically. But there are a few things that can alter the exact order. One is an option in 1Password > Preferences > Browsers for 'Allow filling on pages that closely match saved websites'. That determines whether or not 1Password pays attention to the subdomain of the website when it shows matching Logins.

For example, if that option is disabled (the default setting), and you go to https://calendar.google.com in your browser and then open 1Password mini, it will first show you the Login items that have https://calendar.google.com in one of their website fields. Login items that only have other Google subdomains such as https://accounts.google.com or https://plus.google.com will be hidden behind the 'Show X more items' option (even if they are marked as Favorites).

On the other hand, if that option is enabled and you go to https://calendar.google.com, 1Password mini will show any Logins with the google.com domain and ignore the subdomain. Favorites will be listed at the top, and the rest will be in alphabetical order by title. I think that might be at least part of why the selected Login item in your screenshot is down further in the list than you expected.

So the first thing to try is to open 1Password, go to 1Password > Preferences > Browsers, and toggle the 'Allow filling on pages that closely match saved websites' option. Now go back to the same website from your screenshot and open 1Password mini again. Does the list of suggested Logins make more sense to you this time?

Another thing that will affect that list is which website field in a Login item matches the current website. In your screenshot, you're viewing thepouringtales.seltzdesign.com, and in the selected Login item named "The Pouring Tales", thepouringtales.seltzdesign.com is in the "website 2" field. When the 'Allow filling on pages that closely match saved websites' option is disabled, 1Password mini will list Logins that have thepouringtales.seltzdesign.com in the first website field at the top, followed by Logins that have thepouringtales.seltzdesign.com in one of the other website fields.

Does that help to make sense of things? Like I said, it can be confusing. ;) But if you're still having trouble understanding the order of the matching Logins, please let us know. Cheers! :)

Thank you @Drew_AG for your thorough explanation! I checked and "Allow filling on pages..." was indeed checked. I unchecked it and it is now working as expected :chuffed:
