Problem with auto-fill on set of related websites (Amazon.xx)

Hi,

(I finally got irritated enough about this issue to submit it to the forum...)

I have a set of Logins defined for a set of related websites--the various Amazon sites for various territories (US, Canada, Italy, etc.). They each have a different URL root (amazon.com for US, amazon.it for Italy, etc.). The UK deviates from this pattern slightly (amazon.co.uk), but it's still distinctive.

Now, if I go to one of these sites' login pages, and either pulldown the 1P menubar menu, or hit the shortcut to auto-fill, I see all of the variants listed, rather than the correct one (for the menu), or having the fields filled-in without a list of options presented (for the shortcut). I'd have expected 1P to be able to tell the difference between these variants and apply the correct one.

Is there something I'm doing wrong here, or some setting I can apply, to make this work better?

Thanks,
Mitch

  • Hi @yawitz ,

There is a setting you can change. Go to the Preferences in 1Password and click on Browsers. Then uncheck "Allow filling on pages that closely match saved websites." That causes the 1Password extension to require more exact matches between the site and the website field in the 1Password login item.

Give that a try and if you still have trouble, please let us know.

    Cheers,
    Kevin

Huh. I hadn't noticed that setting. Unfortunately, it was already unchecked.

For more details, here's a list of URLs that is considered "equivalent" for auto-fill purposes:

    https://www.amazon.com/ap/signin?<...a_bunch_of_parameters...>
    https://www.amazon.ca/ap/signin?<...>
    https://www.amazon.it/ap/signin?<...>
    https://www.amazon.de/ap/signin?<...>

I left off the large portion of the URLs, assuming they aren't relevant to this issue.

    Thanks,
    Mitch
