Automatically Fill like browsers
Hello,
I just started using 1password for about a week now and I am getting more and more frustrated when I am trying to log on some websites.
I want 1password to auto fill just like the browsers are auto-filling, Is there any way for that?
Thank you!

Hi @shalke,
I assume when you say auto-fill you mean as soon as the page has loaded you want the extension to fill fields without your intervention and that you find the keyboard shortcut
ctrl + \
doesn't meet these needs?I don't foresee this changing. It's a deliberate move on our part as we want 1Password to only do something when instructed. It was also an issue in the past (I'm talking years) where it was found that the automatic filling of fields could be manipulated. The reason I still remember this vaguely was as an Opera user at the time (pre 15 when it was awesome), I felt smug being Opera was the only browser not affected because it did what we still do, require user intervention before filling.
If I'm misunderstanding any aspect of your query please do correct me and we're always open for discussion, it's just this wasn't a cavalier decision we made, it was carefully considered.

Hey,
Thank you for your quick reply.
You got it right, when the page is loaded and there is a need to login, it automatically fills the data.
But using shortcuts or right click and selecting from a list it added additional steps that makes me re-think about using 1password. Why its not offering an option to auto-fill as soon as the page is loaded?
Honestly, I haven't given
ctrl + \
much use, I will try to give it more tries.Thank you.

@shalke We definitely understand where you're coming from, but autofill has it's own specific security concerns, and 1Password has been praised by security researchers for not operating in this way. (Fun fact: Internally, "autofill" is a no-no word when discussing 1Password's behavior in the browser.)
Instead, 1Password always requires your specific instruction in order to fill your data. That instruction can be given by choosing the Login from the menu or using the keyboard shortcut. It can also be given by using the open and fill feature. You can search for a Login in 1Password mini and press return or locate it in the main app and click the URL to open the page and immediately attempt to fill. (Tip: Make sure your Login's URL is set to the URL for the page where the sign in form is.) This is the closest thing we have to true autofill.
I hope that helps explain the situation and also gives you some ways forward to using 1Password most effectively. Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.
