1password doesn't offer to update new passwords

It was quite some time ago (maybe a year) but at some point, 1password doesn't offer to update old passwords when changed, nor does it offer to create new ones when I sign up on a website. All it does is create a password only item in its database which I then i have to go in and convert to a login.

Just wondering if this is intended? 1password is now proving to be a lot of work for me. I just deleted about 500 duplicates (logins that also had seperate password items in the database). 1password also doesn't work with the windows extension browswers at all. I am forced to open 1password and copy/paste passwords from the application.

So in summary here are my growing frustrations with 1password:

1) 1password doesn't offer to update passwords when I go to websites and change them
2) hundreds of duplicates exist
3) 1password doesn't work well on Windows extensions (notably Chrome).

I am about to make a switch to Dashlane to see if my experiences are better.

1Password Version: 6.3.3

    1) 1password doesn't offer to update passwords when I go to websites and change them

@ravensword: I'm sorry for the confusion! While certainly there are specific sites that 1Password has difficulty with when it comes to saving and filling login credentials, having it not work at all definitely isn't normal or expected. I'm using a similar setup here successfully, so there's hope for you as well. We'll get to the bottom of what's causing these troubles for you!

First things first: double check to make sure that Autosave is enabled (in 1Password Preferences > Browsers) and that you don't have a long list of specific sites saved where 1Password has been told not to save logins.

Also, a few things you mentioned though, together, gave me pause:

    1. 1Password is not offering to save new logins
    2. 1Password is saving Password items

To be clear, 1Password should automatically save a Password item when you use a generated password. This is a safety net for cases when you're not able to save a login, so that you can at least retrieve the password (rather than being locked out of the account). So I wonder if you're seeing a Password item (which was saved automatically when you copied/filled a generated password) and a Login item which you saved separately and believing those to be duplicates.

The fact that 1Password is saving Password items suggests that it is working in some respects. Are you generating these passwords in the browser extension, or in the main 1Password app? Since you seem to be saying that you're not able to save Logins in the browser though, I'm guessing that you're doing this in the app itself. Are you unable to access the 1Password extension in the browser at all on the Mac? If you can give me steps to reproduce the problem you're experiencing, we should be able to fix it — whether that means a bug in 1Password itself, or a configuration issue specific to your setup.

    2) hundreds of duplicates exist

While we can't turn back time, I suspect that fixing 1) will go a long way to prevent further trouble of this kind. However, 1Password's "Duplicate Passwords" feature (under Security Audit in the sidebar) can be a big help in identifying only the logins which are already duplicated (rather than scrolling through all of your items to try to identify them).

    3) 1password doesn't work well on Windows extensions (notably Chrome).

Can you be more specific? I'd like to help with this too! Please tell me the OS, 1Password, browser and extension versions you're using, the exact steps you're taking, and what is (or is not) happening as you expect. Thanks in advance! :)
