Filling Identity item on page with two address forms (postal/billing)

Hi There-

Just went through the laborious process of migrating from Dashlane to 1p, but having some very frustrating experiences using Autofill for identities, especially when signing up for new web apps or services.

So, I have three identities set up. A personal one, a business postal one, and a business shipping one.

Now let's say I'm on a website that has a whole bevy of form fields. In the latest one for discussions sake, I am setting up some finance information. First I start with my billing address. I first click in the address field, then right click to bring up the contextual menu, click 1password which brings up the mini viewer. I go to identities, select work>billing, and it fills great.

Then I manually fill in details for my checking accounts.

Then it comes to postal address, and I do the same thing above. I click into the first address field, but when I select the identity I want it to auto-fill, it just randomly puts details from my name and address in the checking account info, without having a cursor in there or clicking in the field.

On some pages it will just overwrite the first billing address, so I've just been filling out things manually for the last 6 weeks, which seems to defeat the purpose of the app.

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Do support still check these forums, or is there a better way to get help with this?

    Hello @Mister_Boddy,

While there is some level of user to user interaction most of the replies will come from AgileBits. There can be sometimes be a delay before a response is possible but we do our best to ensure every post receives a response from us, even if it's simply to acknowledge what somebody else has said is correct.

The way that 1Password currently works is it looks at the entire page and does its best to work out which field matches a certain piece of the item it has been instructed to fill with. So clicking the 1Password Browser Extension icon or accessing it via the contextual menu makes no difference. When an Identity item is selected we try to fill various fields but only do so once per page. So if a page has both a billing and postal address only one should be filled. If you have two Identity items with the same fields filled (such as address) I would expect filling with a second Identity should always overwrite fields filled by the first fill as 1Password should be deterministically selecting the same fields again.

What you propose would be a bit of a departure from how filling currently works but in certain situations I can imagine it would have value. I don't know what might need done to make such behaviour possible. I've found it has been filed as a feature request but you may be surprised to hear that it isn't showing a massive demand, in fact filing your interest will be the first "vote". I would have thought we'd see a bit more interest, I suppose it comes down to how many sites use the same page for postal and billing versus separate pages. That's a statistic I don't have an answer to. I will file your interest and it is something that I think would be nice. I don't get a vote though. I will be interested to see what demand is displayed by others that come across your post.

I hope you don't mind but I've altered the title. I'm thinking it might make it easier for others to see this if they're looking for something similar.
