Adding account to Chrome extension
I have the new vault of 1password subscription plan. I have moved my Mac Vault to 1password and my iPhone is also sync'ing to it. My issue is that I have a work Windows 10 pc that I have Chrome loaded. I want to sync my new subscription plan vault to the browser extension. However, I'm getting three ways to do this. 1) new user, 2) Open existing vault and 3) from a backup. So, do I need to load the Windows version of Windows 10 first before I can sync with a browser extension?
My goal is to keep my main vault on my Mac that is in sync with the subscription vault with 1password. If I need to add the application on my work Windows machine I will do that. I was hopeful that I didn't need to do that cause I would like not to put this on a work PC. But I'm sure it's safe in the first place.
Thanks for the help

Hi @b60boy,
The extension doesn't actually sync with anything. Instead the extension is merely a bridge between the browser and 1Password and it has no User Interface (UI) of its own. So whenever you interact with 1Password in the browser you're interacting with the 1Password application installed on that system. It's for this reason that you'll find the menu looks different depending if it's OS X or Windows and whether it's the legacy version 1Password 4 for Windows or 1Password 6 for Windows, required if you are using a 1Password hosted account.
So regardless of the platform it's always the same steps. To gain the most out of 1Password and have the extension you need the client installed and connected to your 1Password hosted account. With 1Password set up the extension can then communicate with it and between the two allow you to log into your sites.
Does that help clarify how they interact? If you have any further questions please do ask
I actually have a question for you. If you moved the entire contents from your original 1Password vault to the new personal vault in your 1Password account did you remove the primary vault from 1Password for Mac so that it was exclusively using your 1Password hosted account? You mentioned keeping your main vault in sync with the subscription vault but the intention behind the 1Password account is there is no worrying about sync again. Any change is instantly communicated to the server and the server is the true source of data. We're trying to move away from the idea of local vaults synced to remote data and instead look at it as a client-server interaction to reduce the overheard and headaches associated with syncing. This works best if you remove any local vaults that you no longer need because the data is in your 1Password account.

Thanks for the reply.
1) So, your saying that I should download the client app for 1password for Windows and that is how the browser extension interacts. Ultimately, the client app is syncing with he hosted vault at your site.
2) On my Mac vault, the old vault was transferred and was put in the trash folder. So the old local vault is sitting in the trash.
Thank you for the quick reply. Your company and the products and customer service rocks.

Hi @b60boy,
I'd say you've got it  The 1Password application handles communicating with our server and the 1Password extension. The extension tells 1Password about the page you want to fill and then it's the job of 1Password to tell the extension what fields to fill. The extension is more just a link in the chain albeit an important one as without it there's no filling
If you only have your 1Password account connected to your copy of 1Password for Mac then you can be assured that everything is being stored correctly on our servers and that any other device linked to it will see the same data.
If you believe your access needs for your vault will be minimal at work and you don't mind copy and pasting you could access your data via our web interface. It lacks the convenience that the combination of the application and extension have but it would mean you wouldn't need to install the application on the work machine.
The requirement of the application is mostly historical. For years we've not hosted your data so the extension could only communicate with the application on your computer. We have different options now but throwing away mature client applications on Mac, iOS and Android would be a massive undertaking. By using the application we can continue to use all the well-maintained code which also includes the filling logic.
Let us know if you have any other questions
