Stuck in Update Loop - Going From 6.3.5 to 6.5 on Sierra

Hello!

We just got our new MacBook Pros with Touch Bar setup and are excited to try out the new features in 1Password.

I get notifications telling me to update from 6.3.5 to 6.5. I click update, go through the steps, and when the program reopens itself, it's still 6.3.5. A minute later, I get another notification telling me I should update and the cycle starts again.

Can someone help me get out of this loop?

1Password Version: 6.35
Extension Version: 4.6.2.90
OS Version: 10.12.1
Sync Type: Teams

  • @reidg,

That's certainly a strange scenario, but I suspect what is happening is that you've previously run 1Password from your downloads folder and are being bitten by a macOS Sierra feature called App Translocation. The way that works is that if the application has been launched from your Downloads folder it copies that application to a read-only disk image and launches it from there.

    1. if 1Password is running, bring it to the foreground and hold down the control key while selecting the 1Password 6 -> Quit menu item; this should quit both 1Password and mini
    2. Delete 1Password 6 from your ~/Downloads folder
    3. Download and run the installer from here
