Why do I get a blank screen when 1Password is invoked via the share icon of Safari on IOS 10.1.1 ?

Starting at 1password.com/families I created a 1Password account and downloaded 1Password 6.5.2 for Mac. I also download the 1Password app from the Apple App Store to use on my iPhone 5 running IOS 10.1.1. I have successfully used 1Password on my Mac (El Capitan 10.11.6) to save login credentials for various websites. I can see that these login credentials are sync'd to the 1Password app on my iPhone. In particular, 1Password on my iPhone shows a login for Amazon. When I go to the Amazon login screen in Safari on my iPhone and then click the share icon at the bottom of the Safari screen I see 1Password listed as one of the supported apps. When I click on 1Password it appears to load but the screen immediately goes blank and remains blank.

_1Password Version: 6.5.2
_Extension Version: 4.6.2
_OS Version: OS X 10.11.6, IOS 10.1.1
_Sync Type: 1Password account login

    Hi @mclbryce!

That's for contacting us - let's see if we can get you up and running again!

Just to clarify, when you say a blank screen, do you mean entirely black (as in, looks like the display is off), or something else? If it's something else, would you be able to share a screenshot with us? Please be sure to blur or block out any personal information before sending it!

If you get an empty, gray panel from 1Password after tapping the icon in the Share panel, could you check in the main 1Password app if you have "Lock on Exit" disabled? That's 1Password > Settings > Security > Lock on Exit. If it is disabled, try enabling it, and then try signing into Amazon again.

Let me know how you get on!

Thanks for the quick response. Screenshot of blank 1Password screen is attached.
"Lock on Exit" was disabled. I enabled it and tried again to login to Amazon. The sequence of this login attempt was:
Go to Amazon login screen in Safari.
Click on share icon at bottom of Safari screen.
    Click on 1Password app.
    Enter master password for 1Password.
Select the login for Amazon from list of logins in 1Password.
Login credentials are filled in the Amazon login screen by 1Password.
Click on Signin and get successfully signed in to Amazon.

Enabling "Lock on Exit" eliminated the original problem.
Is there some setting I can change so I don't have to enter the master password for 1Password each time I want to use it ? ?

Thanks for the update! Good to know that enabling "Lock on Exit" is a workaround. This is an iPhone 5, not a 5s, correct? As such you wouldn't have Touch ID available... but you could set a PIN to unlock 1Password with. This option can be found in 1Password > Settings > Security. That would make it such that you do not have to enter the Master Password every time, but could unlock with a simpler PIN.

Please let me know how that turns out. Hopefully in a future revision we can get to the root of this bug such that this sort of workaround is not necessary.

Thanks again for the quick response. Yes, the phone is an iPhone 5, not a 5s. What you suggested as a workaround (enable "Lock on Exit" and set a PIN to unlock 1Password) does get around the problem. This required enabling a device passcode for the iPhone itself as well, something I had not previously done. Entering the 1Password PIN each time I use 1Password on my iPhone is much easier than entering the master password each time.

  • Thanks @mclbryce! Glad to hear that works for you. Sorry such a workaround is required. Hopefully we can get that fixed up.
