There is no "sync" option under preferences. Unable to sync iphone. Help!

Now that I've changed all my passwords on my Macbook Air, my iPhone says I need to change my passwords. I looked up the iCloud option, but under preferences there is no "sync" option listed as shown on your tutorial. I need this solved asap as I need to leave soon and none of my apps and emails are now accessible. Help!
