Bug? App switching and cursor placement in secure notes

Hi,

I use secure notes to store some lengthy text files to which I need to refer to (and edit) while jumping back and forth to other apps (mostly LogMeIn). I find that when I switch back to 1Password, the cursor placement seems to scroll down about half-to-two-thirds way down the note (this is when I'm in he edit note view). This is immensely frustrating since I then have to scroll back to find where I was. It doesn't always happen (argh!), but at least half the time.

Is this a bug?

I'm using iOS 10.2, and the latest 1Password.

Best regards, Peter

  • Hi @pwhittaker,

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry you're having difficulty with scrolling inside Secure Notes.

Could you give me a few more details about the problem you're having, I've tried to reproduce it on my iPhone 6s with 10.2 and was unable to do so.

    • What device are you seeing this on? iPhone or iPad, which version (iPhone 6, iPad Pro, etc)?

    • Can you give me the specific steps you use to reproduce this problem?

I have tried editing a secure note, switching to another app, and then switching back to 1Password. But this always returned me to where I was before.

So if you can give me the steps you took that might help me reproduce what you're seeing.

Thanks and have a great day,

    – Andrew

Hi Andrew, I’m running 1P v6.5.1 on an iphone 7 plus.

Here’s a screen recording of the issue:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/lr3tqiq18cexjka/1password scrolling bug video.mov?dl=0

I think it may be related to this text file; I’ve replaced all sensitive content, put some line numbers in to help understand where we are in the doc.

    Video timecode notes:
0-36s: I start by tapping to edit the notes field; you can see how the resulting Edit view scrolls by itself. I back out, and go in again a few times; each time it scrolls a different amount.

36s-1m08: I try app-switching to Safari and back again, but cursor stays in place (yay! but not helpful…)

1m09: try going back to note view and back into edit view, to confirm varying scrolling behaviour at start of video is still occuring. It is.

1m38: try app-switching again…now the problem appears. To be clear, when switching back to 1P I’m not touching the text field at all, it’s scrolling by itself.

1m58-2m07: The ‘236’ paragraph is the end of the doc; when I switch back this time, cursor stays at end of doc. at 2m08 I scroll manually to show this is the end of doc.

2m14: I use the top-bar-touch shortcut to scroll to the top of the doc, thinking that perhaps when I switch again the cursor will start to jump down the doc….

    2m24:…it doesn’t. Nor at 2m30.

2m35: I back out, and back into edit view. Odd scrolling exhibits again.

2m38: I manually scroll up to a better-numbered part of the file :-) App-switch again, it scrolls to a differnt part of file, and I manually scroll to show the line number.

2m59: problem happens again, and I manually scroll afterwards to show line number.

    End of video.

What’s the best way to send you the text file to preserve line break types etc? To remove sensitive content, I emailed it from 1P iOS to gmail, copied it to Textwrangler, edited file, pasted it into secure note in 1P on Mac (v6.5.3), and let it sync (via dropbox) back to phone. Perhaps you can give me an email address to which to send the file?

    Thanks,
    Peter
