backing up iphone 1password data without ever passing data through the cloud
Hi. I installed 1password onto my iphone and have been using it for a while without a 1password account. Now I would like to back up the 1password data but I really don't want it to get copied into the cloud (even though I know it is encrypted). I read somewhere that I can install a windows version of 1password onto my pc and then copy the data from my iphone app to the windows program via wifi. But when I install the windows version of 1password on my pc and open it up, I see that it won't allow me to do anything unless I create a 1password account, and I assume if I do that it's going to force me to do that on my iphone as well and pass the data through the cloud (icloud, dropbox, etc.). Is there a way to skip the online aspect and just move the data from my iphone 1password app to my windows 1password program?
Thanks.

Hi @asinshesq ,
You can back it up through iTunes. See the iOS Section on this page: https://support.1password.com/backups/#you-can-also-create-and-restore-backups-of-local-vaults
That will let you create a local backup on your iPhone and transfer it to your Windows PC via a USB cable.
If you have any question about the above procedure, please let us know.
Cheers,

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

I managed to back up my iphone 1password data and, with itunes, move the backup to a folder on my pc. But I still can't use it with 1password on my pc. When I open 1password on my pc, it allows me to sign into a 1password account (which I don't have or want) and also tells me if I have a folder with data I can select it. So I try to select it and nothing happens. Any suggestions? Thanks.

@asinshesq: Right. The 1Password for iOS backup/restore feature allows you to backup your 1Password for iOS data and restore it to 1Password for iOS. Trying to restore an iOS app to a PC would have unpredictable results, so it isn't something that's supported. You can, however, sync your 1Password data between your devices. It sounds like that's what you're trying to do anyway. And while you can use something like WLAN Server, keep in mind that your 1Password data is end-to-end encrypted, so 1Password simply doesn't depend on the sync service to protect your data. 1Password is secure by design, not by chance. I hope this helps. Be sure to let me know if you have any other questions! :)

Thanks. I saw the wlan sync link earlier (and it seemed to be just what I was looking for), but when I follow the link it says you can't do it in 1password6 (which I gather is the current version for windows). And when I open up 1password6 on my pc, I can't get any farther than the screen allowing me to either sign into my 1password account (what I was trying to avoid) or clicking to use data from dropbox or icloud (both cloud solutions I am trying to avoid) or a file (which as discussed above I couldn't make work). Any way around this?
Thanks for your input.

WLAN sync is considered an advanced option and not generally recommended. While it keeps your (encrypted) data to just devices you control it is the least convenient and most technically complicated option we offer. We feel 1Password.com accounts are the best way to use 1Password, but barring that we'd recommend Dropbox (you cannot use iCloud when involving Windows).
1Password 6 for Windows is the version for 1Password.com subscription accounts. Unless you plan to use a subscription account you'll want 1Password 4 for Windows.
Hope that helps. :)

Thanks. I didn't realize I could download 1password4 (as opposed to 1password6). I'll give that a try tonight. (I don't want to use dropbox because that's a cloud based solution as well.)
