Iphone7 with version 3.7.2 - App is not allowing access to some passwords. How can I regain access?
Hello,
My boss has an iPhone 7 with an older version of 1Password (by the logo, I'm guessing it's version 3.7.2). Recently, he has not able to access a few passwords through his app and I'm wondering if it's because of the app's 'age' or if it's another issue. I was hoping that we could use his account information to log into the online version, but he can't seem to find his Master Key within his app. Because of this, I have a few questions:
- Where can he find his Master Key within the app?
- Once he has the Master Key, can he sign into 1Password.com with his information or is it another site because of the 'age' of his app?
- His iPhone says that there isn't an update for his app although it's an older version, how does he go about updating this app to the newer version?
- Will this update allow him to full access into the app (will it unlock those few passwords that are not accessible)?
- If not, what do you recommend?
I appreciate your help and apologize for the remedial questions.
Courtney :)

Hello,
My boss has an old version of 1Password (version 3 or 2) on his iPhone 7 and his app is not functioning due to system updates by iOS (or at least that's what [I think] I read in these forums :) ). I searched for his license here and found that he is eligible for an upgrade to the new 1Password license for Windows 7 or higher and Mac Yosemite. I've been reading about subscriptions and think that, for organization's sake, the subscription-based service would be best for him. I have a few questions related to this license upgrade:
- Will his current 1Password data be upgraded to the new license or will we have to import/export his information?
- Is his data safe if we upgrade to the new license version? Does it put his data at risk?
- Does this new upgrade also include a subscription-based service?
- If not, would we have to sync his 1Password via WiFi in order to keep everything updated?
- If we decide to upgrade to the new license is there a discount for the subscription-based service?
We tried to sync his app with Dropbox but, unfortunately, his version is not able to sync with Dropbox because of it's 'age.' He is using a Windows computer: are there other alternatives to ensure that his passwords are secure? Many of his passwords were stored using a second password - security key - option that was available with the 1Password . when he enters this security key into his app, the app shuts down.
Thank you for any advice you can give,
CourtneyBased off of some info found in previous post:
"That's 1Password in a nutshell. But as far as 1Password.com in particular, it's easier to manage a single subscription than it is to keep track of individual licenses across different platforms and version upgrades. The subscription model also allows us to build in features and services that wouldn't be feasible in the standalone apps, like central hosting and vault management."1Password Version: 2 or 3

Hi Courtney ( @CourtBabin ),
Thanks for taking the time to write in.
1Password 3 for iOS was retired in December of 2012 and has not been updated since then. It is not compatible with modern versions of iOS. We did send out multiple announcements at the time, but unfortunately it seems a number of people somehow missed them and are now stuck on v3 which doesn't work. :(
The new 1Password 6 for iOS can be had here:
And upgrade instructions can be found here:
How to upgrade from 1Password 3 on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Unfortunately I can't make any promises about any items your boss has already lost access to, but I would highly recommend upgrading now before future iOS updates make it such that 1Password 3 for iOS cannot run at all and all items become unrecoverable.
To answer some of your other questions:
Where can he find his Master Key within the app?
If you are talking about he Master Password then you won't find it anywhere in the app. 1Password does not record the Master Password. It is supposed to be memorized.
Once he has the Master Key, can he sign into 1Password.com with his information or is it another site because of the 'age' of his app?
No. 1Password.com is a new separate service that we're offering. With the standalone app (what your boss is using) we do not store the customers' data. By default it is stored only on their devices. Standalone app data can be backed up:
1Password backups
It can also be synced:
Sync your 1Password data
Or, you can set up a 1Password.com account and migrate the data into it. You can read about migrating to a 1Password.com account here:
Move your existing 1Password data to a 1Password account
I hope that helps. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.
