We have a customer that wants to enable 2FA on all kinds of accounts (access to Remote Desktop, sites etc.). They use Duo Security. We'd like to use 1Password as the authenticator app, but 1Password cannot scan the QR-code generated by Duo.

Tips?

  • Hi @rdouma,

I'm trying to find information to confirm this, but my understanding is that this won't work.

1Password isn't accepting that QR code because it's not a valid TOTP QR code. It's a Duo setup code. 1Password can only generate TOTP based 2FA codes, and while Duo Mobile can also generated TOTP based codes, their native Duo 2FA is not based on TOTP and requires client/server communication.

I hope that clears things up.

    Hi @rickfillion,

Thank you for your prompt reply and clear explanation. Sounds like bad news for us, we'll go for plan B.

    Cheers,
