On my ipad, i have a User ID and Display Name that are not mine, and it doesn't seem to sync with my desktop Mac. All software is up-to-date, but I've had this nagging sync problem for a while now.

Has this other person somehow gotten all my logon info?

  • Hi @lmhinman

Did you purchase this device used?

Could you please check what account you are logged into in the Dropbox app on the device?

    Thanks.

Ben. I'm actually signed in on Dropbox as this guy. Weird.

  • That would explain what you're seeing. You'll likely want to get that changed. If you are actively syncing your 1Password data to their Dropbox account I'd recommend turning syncing off within 1Password and then deleting the sync file. Then you may want to consider an alternative method of syncing, such as by using a 1Password account:

    Sync your 1Password data

This page goes into a bit more detail about what you get with an account, and why you might want to subscribe:

What is the difference between a 1Password account and a standalone license?

Thanks, Ben. I assume I should also sign off from this account in the other person's name and then log back on as myself?

Interestingly, my iPhone dropbox account is ok. Just the iPad.

I'm happy, btw, to switch to 1Password syncing.

  • @lmhinman

If you'd like to switch to syncing through our subscription service you can do so following these instructions:

Move your existing 1Password data to a 1Password account

That way you'd simply sign into your 1Password account on any of your devices to have full access to your data. No messing about with a 3rd party required.

If you do decide to stick with Dropbox then yes I'd definitely recommend logging out of that account (after verifying none of your data has been stored in it) and logging into your own. This is done through Dropbox. But once complete you may need to disable and re-enable sync within 1Password.

    Thanks!

I've switched over to 1Password's subscription service (I think). in settings on my iPhone, I have "Account Status: Subscribed" under the Your Accounts | Hinman. However, when I check on the sync tab, I get several options--dropbox, iCloud, or WLAN server. Do I need to select one of these? I'm confused. Thanks.

  • You do not, no. Once your data is in an account based vault it is automatically synced to all devices you're logged into that account with. Did you use the instructions in the above guide to move your data from your standalone vault to your new subscription account? Once you have you can delete the standalone vault, but not until after you verify everything is in your account (you can check this in the app by switching to your Personal vault or by logging in on our website and viewing your vault there).
