Reset IPad Pro - my info did not sync from my iPhone so NO entries

I had to reset my iPad Pro and after reinstalling 1Password (which I also have in my iPhone 6), the information did not sync. I am being asked to enter everything from scratch again. I did have the chance to enter my emergency kit info, which I did and checked it MULTIPLE TIMES but the message I got was that the server host could not be found. My password, master key and email were absolutely correct. Why is this happening? I have over 80 entries and don't want to re-enter all of them again! HELP!

1Password Version: latest
Extension Version: ??
OS Version: 10.2.1
Sync Type: iCloud

Just thinking about this, I am TERRIFIED to even open the program on my phone because I am so afraid that all my passwords have disappeared from the program on my phone now... If that's the case, I don't know what I am going to do. That's the issue with syncing devices - for some reason when one goes wrong and then it SYNCS with the other one, all data is lost!
Speaking of which, when I entered my password into my iPad, it indicated that my data was located in iCloud and then it came up with NOTHING... How does this happen???

  • Hey @kelsie47,

Thanks for taking the time to write in! I'm sorry to hear about the scare. :( Could you please try logging in here and see if all of your data is still available to you?

    1Password

It looks like you have a trial 1Password.com account. If your data is there then I'd recommend trying to sign in from the iPad again (using your 1Password account -- info on the Emergency Kit -- not iCloud). You may have just been experiencing a temporary issue accessing our service or the internet from the iPad. If you still have difficulties please try it from a different internet connection.

Please let us know how it turns out. :)

    Ben

P.S. Since you haven't added your billing information to your trial account yet it is set to freeze on Feb 22nd. Please be sure to add billing info before then to continue full access to 1Password!

It IS available by logging into that site...
Now, after much previous discussion about the trial membership several months ago, I decided that I did not want the Mac version of 1Password as it did not function for me as I needed it to. I was not able to bypass the 2 step verification for the sites that I needed it to, no matter how it was set up. Consequently, I have not put in my credit card information to date. I was informed back then that I would still have FULL AND COMPLETE access to the information on my iPad and my iPhone just like I had before. Now, you are telling me that my information will be frozen? So now I have TWO issues - First, I cannot get my current set of passwords onto my iPad - I have them on my phone only bt I desperately need them on my iPad - and second, come Feb 22, if I don't choose to enter my credit card info and be billed monthly (even though I cannot use this program on my Mac), my information will be frozen? What happened to the free version of this program for OS devices? Something is really misleading here...

For some reason, I cannot use the Emergency Kit because every time I try to enter the information, the top box where it says sign in address, that spot doesn't allow me to add anything. There is already ".1password.com" inserted there and it looks like something else is supposed to go in front of that and in my emergency kit, I have something to add before that typed info. However, I cannot get into that section. That box is greyed out and will not allow me to input anything in there. If I leave it blank, I get an error code. Everything else is fine - Consequently, I keep getting an error code when I try to sign in. I have to do this from my iPad - as that is where i am missing the information... All options lead to this same screen.

  • @kelsie47,

A 1Password account is a subscription service and after a trial period requires payment to continue using. We never lock you out of your data -- you're always able to view your information even if your account is frozen, but to continue using your 1Password account it is a subscription (you can choose to be billed monthly or annually; annually is less expensive).

The iOS app is free, but to use it with a 1Password account requires a subscription.

Your sign-in address is my.1password.com as you're using an individual 1Password account. If you're using the https://signin.1password.com/signin page to sign in you need to enter my into the box prior to .1password.com. Alternatively you can just go directly to https://my.1password.com/ and enter the remainder of your credentials (email address, Account Key, and Master Password).

Since your information is still safely in your account there is no concern with opening the app on your iPhone. You're safe to do so. And as for the difficulty on your iPad, as I mentioned in my previous post, it sounds as though the iPad may be having trouble accessing our service. Please try uninstalling the 1Password for iOS app and reinstalling it:

1Password 6 for iOS - iTunes App Store

If you still have trouble, please try from a different internet connection.

    Thanks!

Finally - I was able to get the info back into my iPad (although for some reason the number of entries reads 60 instead of 80 but they are all there...)

I'm not understanding the difference between using the app with and without an account. Just because I signed up for the trial version now puts me at risk for my info being frozen whereas had I not done that, I would have been fine?
What do I need to do to ensure that I can continue using the app on my iPad and iPhone without my info being frozen in a couple of weeks? I am not going to pay for a service that is designed for my Mac when I am not using it for that purpose and the app is free.

  • @kelsie47,

I certainly understand the desire to not have your account frozen. I wouldn't want that either! One of the things I love about using a 1Password account is that it doesn't require a lot of thought. As long as I keep my subscription up to date my account will never be frozen. Even if my account gets frozen I'd still have read-only access to all of my 1Password data until I could rectify that.

Your data is yours and we would never keep you from it.

A 1Password account is not just for Mac. In fact we have a number of users that don't use 1Password on a Mac at all. Lots of folks only use 1Password on their iOS devices. A subscription covers access to the latest versions of all of our 1Password apps from all of your devices (including the web interface which you've been able to log into at https://my.1password.com ).

The account also includes automatic syncing. As you've seen, you simply sign into your account, and all of your data is there. No need to manually configure a 3rd party service like Dropbox.

And it also handles backups of your 1Password data automatically that you'd otherwise have to make manually. Unfortunately most people forget to do this, or don't even think about it -- until they need to restore and have no recent backups to restore from. If you lose all of your devices all you need to do is sign in and you can pick up right where you left off.
