Where on the home screen do I find a preferences button?
My home screen (I am just trying to set this up) does not have the features described in your tutorials. All I want to do is to move my existing vault of passwords on Safari to 1 Password. Have I somehow missed a step in the setup process? When I follow your directions below to find the 1 Password v versions etc, I am taken to a screen with a top bar that I have never seen before. So IO can't tell you the version of 1Password I am using. But I just bought it today. I also have the latest versions available of MAC and IOS.

Hi @davidax,
Thanks for taking the time to write in. It sounds like there may be confusion as things are a bit different between 1Password for Mac and 1Password for iOS.
Could you please let me know which guide/tutorial (URL) you are trying to follow so that I can attempt to clarify the steps for you?
Thanks!
Ben

Sorry for botching the posting format!
I loaded 1 Password (the family version) on Safari after buying the app from iTunes. I am using a Mac running Sierra 10.12.3, to try to transfer the account and password info from my vault in a Dropbox account that I reach from my Finder screen.
The tutorial I mentioned I found by clicking on my family name in the upper right corner of the 1 Password homepage I get when I open 1 Password from my Safari bookmarks. That click opens a list of links in a box on the upper right of the screen, including one for "Help and Support" -- that is where I found the links I thought would help me make this transfer. The link was under "Move your existing 1Password data to a 1Password account."
Should the app have launched independently of Safari? Is that possibly the problem? Or am I asking the wrong question from the help./support list?
Thanks in advance. I am in and out today and may not respond quickly before late this afternoon California time.

@davidax If you open the app independently of the browser you can get all the information you are looking for.
Once you open 1Password click on 1Password in the toolbar and you can click on About 1Password to find your version number. You will also be able to open the preferences in that menu. The sync feature is in the preferences as well.

I suspected that that might be the problem, but how do I retrieve the 1 Password app from the browser's evil clutches? It doesn't show up in the Launchpad or in the applications list on my Finders page.

OK, I found an installer to install the 1P app, and it is now in my applications folder. But I still only see a more limited screen which lists the credit cards, bank account etc that I entered manually when I could not access the previous listings. In fact the screen I get now no longer has the account family name in the upper right corner, the place where I found the help/support link. I can't even get to the links to the tutorials i need. One step forward, two steps back?

OK found the top line on the Mac screen, and am trying to follow the extension download routine. It has been downloading for a few minutes. Is that normal? The screen doesn't have any indicator of download progress. OK, the secret is not to wait, but to go to the download icon on the toolbar and click on instal. Do it several times if necessary.
I will stop this thread, since I think I am getting where I wanted to be, but the way there could have been clearer. I had hoped for a mass migration of existing passwords, but that is not on the horizon yet. I will continue with the manual entry in Khad's first video tutorial.
