Is there a way to hide/unhide the 1Password Icon from my Apple IOS screens on mac powerbook/iphone

I use 1Password on my Macbook Pro and my iPhone. The icon itself is obviously showing that its a "Safe". Is there a way to change the icon to something less attention getting or to hide and unhide the app from the screen of my devices? Any help appreciated.

  • Hi @cvonselle

Thanks for taking the time to write in.

Changing the icon is not an option, but you could remove it entirely from your Dock on Mac, and you could put it in a folder on iOS:

Create folders and organize the apps on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

That would make it a little less visible on iOS (especially if you put it in a folder on the 2nd page of the home screen). If you remove it from the Dock on Mac you can launch it through the Applications folder in Finder or by searching for it by name in Spotlight.

It sounds like you're looking for "security through obsecurity," though, which is generally been rejected by security professionals as a proper way to provide security:

    I hope that helps!

Thanks Ben. I still believe a simple hide/unhide function would help. Don't really buy the argument about "security through obscurity". Would be a bit like recommending home owners to put their safe on the dining room table rather than hiding it somewhere. Hiding is less about increasing security its more about reducing temptation. Sure, but the counter-argument is that is the safe is secure then it shouldn't really matter how tempted someone is. It is more important to focus on the actual security of the product, rather than trying to hide it.

Unfortunately we can't really do that. :( Apple is pretty particular about apps intentionally being deceptive about their purpose. And on iOS there is no way to outright hide an app that is installed.
