1Password doesn't seem to save the generated passwords.

I have tried several times to generate a new secure password and 1Password (just on iOS - iPhone and iPad) doesn't save the password (in the Passwords section is where I would expect them).

It creates the password fine and copies it to the clipboard, but then the password doesn't appear any where in 1Password and searching for it (based on the name I entered) finds nothing. This is not the behavior I would expect and is actually extremely unhelpful, since then I cannot rely on the service.

To be super clear, here is the use case:

  1. Download new app that requires a new login to the service.
  2. EITHER:
  3. a - Open said app and use the share sheet to open 1Password and bring up the generate password section and create password.
  4. b - Said password entered into the app properly
  5. c - Go into 1Password later to retrieve the password and the listing is nowhere to be found
  6. OR:
  7. a - Open 1Password and go the Passwords to add a password.
  8. b - Generate new password and it is copied to clipboard when I tap the Done button
  9. c - Open new app paste password and finish account creation.
  10. d - Go back to 1Password at some point to retrieve the password and the listing is nowhere to be found

Thanks for you help,
Scott

  • Hi @sjlinwarsaw,

I'm afraid I'm not able to reproduce what you're seeing.

If I'm in Mobile Safari on a website and I open the 1Password extension and select New Login, that allows me to create a login for that site, including a generated password. However that Login item will show up under
Categories > Logins, not Categories > Passwords.

If I generate a new password in 1Password by going to Categories > Passwords and tapping +, I'm able to generate a password, give it a name, and it shows up in my Categories > Passwords list.

Can you let me know if what you're seeing in the two cases I listed doesn't match what I see, because if so that's definitely something we'd have to look at.

    Thanks for your help,

    – Andrew

I confirm that mine does not match what you are seeing. I just tried both types again. Neither showed up in my 1Password list afterward.

  • Hi @sjlinwarsaw ,

Can you check something for me:

    1. Go to Settings > Vaults > All Vaults and take note of the vault listed in Vault for Saving.
    2. Go back to the Categories tab and switch to that specific vault.
    3. Go into the Passwords category.

    Is the Password listed there?

If the Vault for Saving isn't set correctly, and that vault isn't part of your "All Vaults" configuration, you won't see new items (including generated passwords) because they've been saved in that vault. The best solution is to change the "Vault for Saving" to one of the vaults in your "All Vaults" list.

If that didn't solve the issue, I'd like to ask you to create a Diagnostics Report from your iOS device:

    Sending Diagnostics Reports (iOS)

Attach the Diagnostics Report(s) to an email message addressed to support+forum@agilebits.com.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report(s) in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report(s) in our inbox.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so we can track down the report(s) and ensure that this issue is dealt with quickly.

Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks very much!

    Cheers,
    Kevin

    Kevin,

That was it. My primary vault is one I don't generally view, since it is a non-account vault.

I figured it had to be something simple like this and even looked in the vault section when the problem was occurring but obviously missed that section.

    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Hey Scott,

If you've migrated all of the important data out of your Primary vault you can now remove it entirely from 1Password > Settings > Vaults > Primary > Delete Vault. If you want to keep it, but don't want stuff being saved there by default, you can change that Vault for Saving setting Kevin mentioned. :)
