1P update doesn't require system password to install?

Apologies if this has been asked a billion times. It's kind of pointless to search the forums for terms like "password." :)

I've noticed that the 1P updates don't seem to require you to enter your Mac system password to install. How did you manage to do that?

  • @TnIan,

If you installed using a previous Drag & Drop install then the OS has allowed you to place the binary in your /Applications folder without adjusting the permissions of the binary. All subsequent updates retain those permissions.

If you install using the current pkg installer then all subsequent updates will require you to authenticate in order for it to update the installed binary.
