I'm confused about all the different options
Hi!
I've used 1Password free on my iPhone for a long time. I used a secure note to keep track of my Passwords. KeyChain would remember them, but sometimes you want to go on another device or whatever, so then I kept them safe in the secure note.
Yesterday I looked into the Secure Wallet Pro feature on my iPhone and I bought that through Apple Store. It seems to allow me to enter passwords and vaults etc on my phone. I thought I was purchasing the 'pro' version which would allow me to use 1Password on all platforms, Apple Watch, iPhone and iMac...
But apparently it doesn't. It does sync to Apple Watch, but cannot enter ? Is that meant to be just a quick search for existing passwords?
I figured with the Pro Features, I would be able to change from KeyChain to 1Password completely. Not that I'm not satisfied with KeyChain, but when on a different computer, I cannot call up a list of the known passwords from KeyChain. I would have my iPhone nearby, so I would be able to check the list in my 1Password app and use that specific Password.
Now I see that I need to purchase the subscription for a monthly fee to use the OSX app? Or should I just purchase a stand alone version for OSX, since I already bought the stand-alone version for iOS? Would that give me complete access to all the features, or if I purchase the stand alone version for OSX, would I still need something else?
When getting the stand alone versions, would that allow me to receive future updates to your product? Or would I buy the version as it is now and can I only get the updates by purchasing the monthly subscription.
In case you convince me to subscribe monthly..can I refund the 78HKD that I just spent on the iPhone app yesterday?
Also.. How to convert from KeyChain to 1Password, easiest..
And.. in case I don't wish to purchase anything else.. How would that work now?
I have the Secure Wallet Pro Features version on iPhone.. but use KeyChain on OSX.
Should I type every password into the 1Password app for iOS to log them there? Then can I use that as my Password manager for iOS and on Mac do I still need to work with KeyChain?
I am also confused at this time on how it works with passwords. I see an option to generate a new password. Which I like..but if I save that for that specific app or website, will I be able to log in the next time? As that website doesn't know it yet.. etc..
I guess I just need a general , How To, video on how to use it best and how to switch from KeyChain to this one...
Pfft.. long story.. Hope I didn't kill you there.. Thanks for staying awake..
Rick

@SuperBatman: Wide awake, and glad to hear from you, Rick! I'll be happy to help you get things sorted and answer any questions you have. :)

I definitely use Keychain for some things, but I find that I generally prefer 1Password because it isn't limited to just Apple devices. And Secure Notes are a great catch-all for any data you want to store. :)
Yesterday I looked into the Secure Wallet Pro feature on my iPhone and I bought that through Apple Store. It seems to allow me to enter passwords and vaults etc on my phone. Sorry for the confusion there! It isn't possible to bundle Android, Windows, or even Mac apps through the iOS App Store. So we've introduced 1Password.com memberships to make it easy to always have the latest version of 1Password for all of your devices, and not have to worry about hanging licenses or configuring sync — you just login to your 1Password.com account on each device to access your data.
It does sync to Apple Watch, but cannot enter ? Is that meant to be just a quick search for existing passwords?
Indeed, 1Password for Apple Watch will show only the items you explicitly add to it. Since it's such a small screen with limited input, we don't want to dump all of our data on there, making it difficult to scroll through, or cumbersome to make changes there. And of course there's no web browser. All of that can be done on the iPhone though, and perhaps we can expand its capabilities on Apple Watch in the future. But for now it's a convenient way to have access to some frequently used data.
I figured with the Pro Features, I would be able to change from KeyChain to 1Password completely. Unfortunately it isn't possible for 1Password to access all of the data in Keychain. And while it also isn't possible to export data from Keychain on iOS, you may be able to do so on your Mac and then convert it so it can be imported into 1Password.
It depends. If that's all you need and you're happy syncing data between devices yourself, buying the standalone Mac app might do the trick for you. But if you'd like access to all of the apps (including web) then a 1Password.com membership will be a much better option.
When getting the stand alone versions, would that allow me to receive future updates to your product? Or would I buy the version as it is now and can I only get the updates by purchasing the monthly subscription.
A license for the standalone app includes minor updates for the version you purchase. Major releases may be a paid upgrade. But a 1Password.com membership includes everything, with no additional fees, so you'll always have the best that 1Password has to offer for all of your devices.
In case you convince me to subscribe monthly..can I refund the 78HKD that I just spent on the iPhone app yesterday?
It isn't possible for us to offer refunds for App Store purchases, as that's owned and operated by Apple. But shoot us an email at support@1password.com with a copy of your receipt and we'll see if there's something else we can do to help. Just post the Support ID you receive here so we can make sure we received it.
Also.. How to convert from KeyChain to 1Password, easiest..
Definitely check out @MrC 's converter scripts. They can be a huge help in migrating data, so you don't have to manually enter everything.
And.. in case I don't wish to purchase anything else.. How would that work now?
You can continue to use the version you purchased forever without having to pay anything else.
I have the Secure Wallet Pro Features version on iPhone.. but use KeyChain on OSX.
Should I type every password into the 1Password app for iOS to log them there? Then can I use that as my Password manager for iOS and on Mac do I still need to work with KeyChain? You'll always have to use Apple's Keychain on iOS and macOS to some extent (app credentials, etc.), but 1Password makes it much easier to manage the data you store there. Keychain just isn't designed to be used as a database for securing all kinds of information; it's meant to maintain credentials for the OS. There just isn't much of a user interface for managing data there, or syncing it to other devices.
I am also confused at this time on how it works with passwords. I see an option to generate a new password. Which I like..but if I save that for that specific app or website, will I be able to log in the next time? As that website doesn't know it yet.. etc..
Exactly! Both 1Password and the website will need to agree on what the password is, so make sure that when you change a password to make it stronger you do so both on the site and also in 1Password. That way you can use it to login.
I guess I just need a general , How To, video on how to use it best and how to switch from KeyChain to this one...
That isn't something that we can really cover in a video, because there are a lot of factors involved — many of which are outside of the scope of 1Password. But if you're able to export the data you need, you can probably get it into 1Password one way or another.
Pfft.. long story.. Hope I didn't kill you there.. Thanks for staying awake.. Rick
