I am in the same situation here. Updated 1pw on my mac and now can't get in with what I thought was my master password. I can login on the iPhone with touchID, but I can't change the master password there. (Why not? How about adding a touchID check to the change-master-password screen?)

Anyway, assuming I can't remember it, what is the process to create a new vault with my existing data from ios?

    Hi @jkira,

Sorry to hear you forgot your master password! I hope you don't mind, but I've split your post into a separate thread so we can focus on your specific setup.

First, if you think you know what your master password is, but it's not being accepted, there are some tips in this support article which might help: If you think you remember your Master Password

If that doesn't help and you still can't unlock 1Password on your Mac, the basic process will be to reset the 1Password app on your Mac and create a new vault with a new master password, sync that vault to 1Password on your iPhone, and copy all your items from the old vault to the new vault. Once your data has synced back to your Mac, you can reset the 1Password app on your iPhone and set it up again by syncing just the new vault.

There are some specific steps in that process which will be a little different depending on your setup, so to make sure we give you the right instructions, can you please let us know the following:

    • What exact version of the 1Password app is installed on your Mac?
    • What exact version of 1Password is installed on your iPhone?
    • Do you use a 1Password.com account? If so, is it an individual account or part of 1Password Families or 1Password Teams?
    • If you don't use a 1Password.com account, how are you syncing 1Password between your Mac and iPhone (Dropbox, iCloud, WLAN Server)?
    • Aside from your Mac and iPhone, are you syncing 1Password with any other devices?
    • Do you have multiple vaults in 1Password, or just a single vault?

    Thanks in advance! :)

    Mac: version 6.7.1
    iOS: version 6.5.4
I dont have a 1password.com account. I use WLAN sync. No other devices. Single vault.

If I make the new vault on the mac, will it lock or erase the existing vault on the iphone?

  • It definitely won't erase the existing vault on the iPhone. I don't think it'll lock requiring the Master Password either, so that might be the way to go.

    • Reset all data on the Mac (via Help > Troubleshooting > Reset All 1Password Data)
    • Create new Standalone vault
    • Setup Wi-Fi sync server in Preferences > WLAN Server
    • On iPhone disconnect from the old sync configuration and sync against the new Wi-Fi server

This should push up all of the items from your iPhone up to your Mac.

After doing this, you should be able to unlock the iPhone with the Mac's Master Password, and this will update the iPhone's Master Password to be the same.

    Rick
