Two-factor auth: time for a change in tactics?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 1password browser basically works like an incognito window insofar as it doesn't keep session info (including cookies). So every time you start a new session from it, it's fresh.

That's worked fine up until recently for me. Now, nearly all of my banks and online accounts are using browser-based identity verification (that's what it looks like at least). So on my desktop browser, once I authenticate, it's fine for at least 30 days. On my iPad using the 1Password browser (the only one that works smoothly - the integration between 1Password and Chrome doesn't work well), I'm constantly getting prompted with security questions or two-factor auth texts. It's becoming a hassle to use the product now, and previously I'd call it a pure delight.

So is there any thinking from the 1Password team about keeping session info or somehow reducing the hassle in using the product for banking and financial services web sites?

  • Hi @jasondunn,

Thanks for taking the time to write in. Have you tried using 1Password in Safari?

Use the 1Password extension to fill in Safari and apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - 1Password Support

I think you'll find that to be the best experience. :)

Please let us know how it turns out.

Hi Ben - thanks for the quick response. I use Chrome on all my devices, so using Safari isn't much of a solution I'm afraid. Wouldn't the better solution for 1Password customers be to improve the product itself? :)

  • Unfortunately we don't have the ability to directly improve the integration with Chrome. The Chrome team has their own implementation of our extension. The reason the Safari implementation works better is that we're using all our own code there, which is why I mentioned it.

P.S. For what it's worth, Chrome on iOS uses the same rendering engine as all other browsers (including 1Password's 1Browser) on iOS. Apple does not allow 3rd party browsers in the sense that they exist on desktop platforms.
