2FA/TOTP Data Loss When Importing Vault To Subscription Account

About a month ago on my phone I did a vault import to my new 1password subscription account. Everything seemed fine until today when logging into a site it prompts me for my totp code. The saved details did not show any code for it. I go back into my old vault saved in dropbox and low and behold there is the totp code. The dropbox record shows it was modified in April and the subscription account record shows 2015 for the last modified date. How was this data not imported? What the heck? I can no longer trust that any of the data in my subscription account vault is valid data as it has been proven to be inaccurate. Is there a process for me to reconcile all differences? Or do I have to re-import everything leading to losing all new data or having duplicates?

  • Hi @Hibame,

That doesn't sound fun. Can you tell us more about how you imported the data into the 1Password.com vault? Those migrations are pretty simple (in a good way) and don't look at any individual fields within records so I can't think of a way that a migration could happen that wouldn't copy the entirety of an item.

The fact that the item in the 1Password.com vault indicates "last modified 2015" makes me think that the migration was done on a device that had an older version of that item, one without the TOTP code added to it.

Sorry, I forgot to address this. There's no great way of doing this, unfortunately. It's something we'd like to make better. Using 1Password for Mac, you could do an advanced search by clicking on the loupe in the search field of the main app and choosing "Search Options" and doing a search for items that were modified after you did the initial import. You could tag those or copy them to a new temporary vault, clean out the old vault, re-import, then deal with the items that were modified individually.
