Editing form fields?
Dear all,
Is there an officially sanctioned way to edit saved form fields on iOS?
I used to do this on the Mac to remove extraneous or unnecessary information from the 1Password database that could cause issues with form filling — for example on pages that contain multiple forms, or to (un)check a “Remember me” checkbox by default.
I have so far been unable to find out a way to carry out the same task on iOS and this is already causing some issues with sites that have updated their forms and changed the name of their input fields.
Since these entries in 1Password have many notes and extraneous information, I can’t delete and re-create them — not easily, at least — and would love to find a way to edit them in-place.
Any thoughts?

It isn't possible to edit form details on mobile platforms. One of the desktop applications is required. :) That said, if 1Password is saving information that is causing a problem with filling, our extension team would like to hear about it.
Thanks!

Hello @Ben,
Thank you for letting me know… As an increasing number of us move to all “mobile” setups, using iPads as primary machines, I feel it would make sense for 1Password to work towards feature parity between its iOS and macOS apps. I understand this is easier said than done, but it seems a shame that the iOS clients are still considered adjuncts to a Mac-bound setup.

The need to edit form fields is going to be well beyond many customers. Average Joe has no idea how to find the names of form fields, and tools to actually do so on iOS are much less abundant than on desktop platforms. I don't disagree with you, but I think the platforms themselves need to advance further before mobile platforms are going to be a desktop replacement for power users. For Average Joe they can totally be a replacement today, but he is also never going to even look in "saved form details" or view the HTML of a login form.
As mobile platforms evolve we'll continue to evolve our mobile offerings with them. But for right now I feel we'd be trying to cram a round peg in a square hole.

What a shame, Ben… I appear to be an Average Joe, since I have been able to move all my computing needs to an iPad — and yet I can make a strong case for cleaning up and tweaking my 1Password database when things break.
I understand that my personal needs cannot dictate Agile Bits’ policy. I find it hard to believe that I am alone, however, even if I belong to too small a technical minority to matter.
As a matter of principle, though, I would encourage you not to fall victim to the very stereotypes that apps like 1Password are supposed to denounce — such as “the average user does not care about security,” for one. You managed to convince countless Average Joes to use a password manager by treating them like the sensible people they are.

I wouldn't say you're alone. But I would say you're in the minority (with myself and the rest of the AgileBits team ;) ).
Having users be in the position of feeling like they have to edit form fields isn't a position we want to put them in... so as I mentioned if you're running into websites where you're finding the need to do that... Please let our extension team know so we can fix it. :)

The last time I wanted this feature I had signed in and ticked the "Remember me" checkbox, but then later decided I didn't want to be remembered. The only way forward (while I was on vacation) would have been to delete and then re-add the item. Instead I just lived with it until I got home to my Mac to fix it.
Every reason that makes it a valid feature on MacOS makes it just as valid on iOS.

Thanks for sharing your perspective here, @samsonjs. We’re working toward a model where “saved form details” will be going away entirely, and will be replaced with a more flexible system. I don’t have more details than that to share at the moment but considering our move in that direction it seems unlikely that we’ll be making further changes to the current model.
