One tap copy and paste please in iOS?

Currently, when I go to a login entry in the iOS version of the 1password app, I have to tap twice to get either a username or password into the copy buffer. This is really annoying. When I click on username, for example, I'm then presented with a couple of options, Copy and Large Type. I then have to hit Copy to get the username into the copy buffer. So I've tapped the screen twice. For every item that I want to copy I am doing twice the interactions necessary. Note that your competitor (LastPass) works in the fashion that I just outlined and it is a breeze to use.

My feature request would be that if I click on the username (or password or anything else) that it should immediately go into the copy buffer. This would really speed up usability and does not compromise any security on the device.

@vcochrane: You're not going to get "one tap" in the sense that you're asking, since 1Password won't know which item/field/etc. you're trying to copy unless you select it. However, 1Password already supports "swipe-tap": When viewing your item list, swipe your finger to the right on the item you need the password for, and then tap "Copy Password" to put it on the clipboard. I hope this helps. Be sure to let me know if you have any other questions! :)

@brenty Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. When I first get to a entry, like the login for the AgileBits forum, I have this:

Now, if I press on the Username I have this:

At this point I have selected the Username and that is what I want in the Copy buffer. However, I have another step of having to press the "Copy" item in the popup. My feature request is that since I have selected the Username, I want that value automatically placed into the copy buffer. I shouldn't have to have another step of hitting "Copy".

I would also like this to work with the Password field as well as any other field in an entry.

@vcochrane: Thanks for clarifying. It's something we can consider, but I don't think that can happen (at least today) since the other options there are important, and that's the only way to do a context-menu-y thing on iOS. Most users, in my experience, do not want sensitive information copied to the clipboard by accident, which is what auto-copy-on-tap would amount to, since this differs from behaviour pretty much everywhere else in iOS. And ding something else entirely to enable the feature you're asking for would require a fundamental redesign of the app, and a greater divergence from familiar iOS user interaction conventions. So, for now, the best I can offer you is the quick password copy feature I mentioned above. It may be that as iOS matures more nuanced interactions become possible and normalized, so it's good to get this kind of feedback to know that you'd want 1Password to work differently in the future if at all possible. Thank you! :chuffed:

OK, thank you for the response. Hopefully the feature request can make it into the queue. :)

  • Thanks for the feedback, @vcochrane. :)
