Welcome to the forum, @Paul1946! Sadly, that is completely legitimate. It's happening because Apple changed the timeout for iCloud (re)authentication to 8 hours. That means, unless you're opening and closing 1Password multiple times in a typical day, it's going to be every single time you open 1Password.
Unless...
Next time you're prompted to re-authenticate iCloud, on the webpage to input your details, you'll see a box under the text fields that says "Keep me signed in." If you check that, it should greatly reduce how often you're being forced to re-authenticate.
