1Password & iCloud back up concerns

In iCloud settings, where you choose what app data you want to back up, if I enable 1Password, what all gets backed up? Everything goes to iCloud servers? What are the specifics?

I'm freaking out, as I have all of my phone apps enabled.

  • Hi @ohreally,

Apple has a document describing what their iCloud Backup service, if enabled, backs up here:

What does iCloud back up? - Apple Support

    I hope that helps!

Ok. Now explain what 1PW app data goes? All data?

Without having any further insight into how iCloud backups work beyond what Apple has given us in that document, I would assume so, yes. Of course 1Password encrypts your data before it is ever stored on the device, so it would only be encrypted data.

so, those like myself, have been uploading our 1PW sensitive data to Apple servers. I think you guys should add some documentation to this so users are fully aware that this occurs if you do not manually make this change, as app data is enabled on default. Those who sync via iCloud or Dropbox don't care, but I'm willing to bet that most who use WLAN sync would.

    Just a thought ;)

  • Thanks for the feedback, @ohreally. I’ll have a chat with the team about this and see what we can come up with.
