My password didn't work. So I tried to change it. I am logged in. With what password?.

Password didn't work. So I tried to change it. Then it seemed neither worked. Trying to load it into my 1password storage! I see that I am presently logged in. How did that happen? I am afraid to log out, that I won't be able to get back in to ask questions.
