1password extension for Firefox works OK on one Mac, not another

I've been using 1password for several years on my Macs and other devices. Yesterday I installed the latest Firefox ("Quantum", aka Firefox 47) on my Mac at home running macOS High Sierra. Works OK there. Today on my work computer -- which runs the older OS X El Capitan because of compatibility with software we use in the office -- I installed the same new version of Firefox, and installed the 1password extension. The little icon appears in the browser but is light grey and does nothing when I try to use it. No pop-up, no nothing. The standalone 1password app is working fine, and the browser extension for Chrome works fine. My Firefox browser thinks the extension is installed and active. It's just inert with no feedback to give me any clue as to why. Occasionally the little browser extension icon for 1password flashes from grey to black but it happens so fact it's gone before I can even start to move my mouse. It's totally unusable. This is puzzling since I see no problem at all on my other computer running macOS High Sierra. Version info is for the OS where I see the problem.

1Password Version: 6.8.4
Extension Version: 4.6.12.90
OS Version: OS X El Capitan 10.11.6
Sync Type: Dropbox

@jeff_radick Sorry to hear the 1Password extension is giving you trouble in Firefox just now. Please locate and fully delete (not just disable) it, then quit/restart Firefox and download a fresh copy of the 1Password extension for Firefox and see if that doesn't solve the issue. let us know what you discover!

Hi Lars, thanks for the suggestion. I just tried it and the results are very strange -- now the little 1password icon doesn't appear in the browser's tool bar (if that's what it's called) at all -- BUT there is a blank space and when I hover my mouse over it a little bit of text pops up saying "1Password", so I know it's there. And if I click on that blank space, nothing happens. I re-checked the browser add-on settings and it shows that the 1Password extension is installed and not disabled.

Also I'll add that the way I did this is: I exited the browser and re-started it to clear up all other state. Then I removed the old version of the add-on then exited and re-started Firefox again. Then I downloaded and installed the 1Password add-on, and exited the browser and re-started it yet again, and got the behavior described above.

@jeff_radick: I had some odd issues updating Firefox on multiple computers this past week, so I wonder if it's simply damaged in your case. I had to install a fresh copy on two machines because it refused to update on one and would not run at all on the other. Definitely give that a try:

Let me know how it turns out!

I have this exact problem. The extension works on one computer and not the other. Both are running macOS High Sierra. After reinstalling Firefox, I still had the missing icon on the toolbar. I removed the 1Password extension, closed Firefox, reopened and reinstalled the plugin. The image is back, but it's grayed out again. Thoughts?

@dcleek: You'll need to have the latest versions of 1Password, Firefox, and the extension installed in order for them to work together:

Restart your Mac and give that a try. I look forward to hearing back from you! :)
