I recently restored my iphone due to a software malfunction. When I try and restore my backup it asks for my backup password which i saved in my 1Password app on my phone which i cannot access anymore. I did not sync with dropbox, iCloud or any other account that I'm aware of. I saved a backup through the app before I restored it, but where does that backup to? Please help, everything i have is in that backup for my phone and I NEED that password from the app to restore it!!

@Stealthtc: Thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry to hear that. Unless you have already been using 1Password on your PC, have your data sync'd somewhere, or you have a 1Password.com membership, that will not be possible.

Unfortunately we won't be able to help you recover your data, as we never have access to it. If you don't have it stored anywhere else, you will need to start over. There just isn't any way around that. But if you'll let me know what you have to work with, I'll be happy to help walk you through things.

You mentioned saving a backup. Did you do that with 1Password, like this?

    https://support.1password.com/backups/?ios#you-can-also-create-and-restore-backups-of-local-vaults

If so, while that won't work on a PC, once you have a replacement iOS device you can restore it in the app. Let me know and we'll go from there.

Yes, that sounds like the kind of backup I did! I have the new device on me now.

Also to clarify, I have a Mac not a pc! I apologize! And after you told me about the backup, I clicked the link you sent and tried the iTunes file share and tried to find my back up, but nothing comes up!

I didn’t do the backup exactly like that....I basically went to the app and clicked “create backup” and that’s it! Don’t ask me why I didn’t further back it up to something else like it says, but I figured if I click create backup....idk I figured it would save somewhere!

  • It does save somewhere, but that somewhere is within the 1Password app on the iOS device. It sounds like you’ve deleted that.

I’m sorry to say but it sounds like you’ve deleted the only copies of your data.

@Stealthtc: Indeed, do you have your data saved anywhere else?

Do you still have the backup of your 1Password data? You can restore it in 1Password for iOS once you have that on a new iOS device:

    https://support.1password.com/backups/?ios#you-can-also-create-and-restore-backups-of-local-vaults

Alternatively, did you copy your 1Password data to other devices, or sync it somewhere else?

    https://support.1password.com/sync-options/

If you don't have it anywhere at all I'm afraid it's gone, but let me know.

I need help. I just changed out my phone and they are saying my backups are trash. I do see that I have data in two spots. One in drop box and the other on google drive. The backups on google drive are older and I think the data in DB is newer. I did not save in backup form but I do see the data. I need help getting at it.

@arnoldmm62: Since 1Password supports Dropbox sync and your data there is newer anyway, let's go with that. When you setup 1Password on a new device, all you need to do is choose the Dropbox option to use your existing data. I hope this helps. Be sure to let me know if you have any other questions! :)
