[Bug Report] Chrome extensions cannot be used as URLs

As a system administrator using ChromeOS on a daily basis, I got used to using Secure Shell, Google's SSH client for Chrome. On 1Password I keep the details to our servers, including a simple URL that let me connect directly to the server using Secure Shell, which works on https://my.1password.com/ but does not seem to work with 1Password X.

An example URL:
chrome-extension://pnhechapfaindjhompbnflcldabbghjo/html/nassh.html#gatekeeper@127.0.0.1:22

Using that URL Chrome automatically opens Secure Shell and try to connect to 127.0.0.1 on port 22 using gatekeeper as the username, which is quite handy and saves me a lot of time. As mentioned, it works like a charm on https://my.1password.com/.

But 1Password X changes the URL to:
https://chrome-extension//pnhechapfaindjhompbnflcldabbghjo/html/nassh.html#gatekeeper@127.0.0.1:22

This breaks the extension as the https protocol should not be there. It is not a huge deal, but fixing this would make very happy, haha.

:)

  • Thanks for reporting this, @shotbyjamespond! It was a good catch! :)

This should be a fairly simple fix so I'm going to go out on a limb and say we'll try to address this in the 1.4 release.

Thanks again for the report, and welcome to the forums!

Likewise, thanks for bringing this up! Cheers! :chuffed:

  • Good morning, @shotbyjamespond.

I admittedly lost track of time and won't be getting this change into 1.4. I had forgotten that Chrome 64 was being published very soon and we have an important change in our beta channel that must be released beforehand. As a result I stopped development on new changes and published a new Release Candidate today. Once that goes live we can look at adding this change for you.

The first place you'll see this change is in our beta releases, so I suggest you install the 1Password X beta and watch our release announcements in the 1Password X beta forum.

Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend!
