How can I sync older iPhone without using dropbox?

Hi Support,

I have an older iPhone with 1password app version 4.5.3 which doesn't allow me to login with my account. All of my other devices are accessing my online account. Is there some way to get version 4 to access my online account as I really don't want to use Dropbox or iTunes to sync. I have the app on my windows 10 laptop (running 1Password V6.8.492 ) and also have the app on an iPad Air 2 (IOS 11).

Regards
Donna

1Password Version: 4.5.3
Extension Version: Chrome V4.6.12.90
OS Version: IOS 7.1.2
Sync Type: 1password account

@DonnaH: Thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry for the confusion! It isn't possible for 1Password 4 to connect to 1Password.com to use your account there, as 1Password.com did not exist back in 2012 when me made that app. So that simply cannot work. And unfortunately Dropbox also changed their service this past year so that you won't be able to connect to that there either. Ultimately things will only get worse, as Apple long ago stopped supporting iOS 7, never mind all of the other security and incompatibility issues you'll encounter there. We couldn't in good conscience recommend using it online, even if it makes a great media player around the house. Of course, it's yours and it's up to you how you use it, but your options are limited given its age. I'm sorry I don't have better news for you. :(

Thank you Brenty, I will just have to manually add my passwords.

@DonnaH: While iCloud won't work either since Apple changed it significantly starting with iOS 8 and macOS Yosemite, I'd suggest that you give WLAN Server/Wi-Fi Sync a try (these terms are interchangeable, as we've renamed it in recent versions):

How to use the WLAN server

While it does rely heavily on your network setup and is not automatic, it would certainly be better than having to enter information by hand, if it will work for you. I hope this helps. Be sure to let me know if you have any other questions! :)

    Hi Brenty,

Thank you for the suggestion, I did try this however I don't seem to be able to get the the csv export and the import option to line up properly. Version 4 software on import requires you to select the field names to import and as the csv file has several columns I'm not sure which ones to select.

@DonnaH: Can you fill me in on what you're trying to do? That's the first you've mentioned of a CSV export. I thought you were trying to use WLAN Server to sync between devices. Please let me know!

    Hi Brenty,

Sorry for the confusion, you can only do a WLAN sync using 1Password 4 for Windows and have to export the login details from 1Password 6. The only format you can export out of 6 is either CSV or text which isn’t ideal. When you select the file to import into version 4 you have to select various columns from a drop down list. 1password 4 also requires a separate license key. It would be great if I could do a WLAN sync using version 6 as I don't like having to export to a readable format to be able to sync with older devices.

@DonnaH: Thank you! I wasn't confused about what you were doing though, only why. I think there's an easier way than this manual export import thing you're trying to do. 1Password for Windows version 6 does not support local vaults, so it uses CSV for exporting data to other apps. We'll be adding 1PIF in the future, along with local vaults and syncing in version 7. I see that you've been in contact with Greg via email already, so I'll reply there shortly so we can go over the options.

    Hi Brenty,

Thank you for all your assistance with this., I agree it isn't worth all the work to use on my iPhone and I have manually added the couple of passwords I need on the phone.

You're welcome! I wouldn't want to go through all that myself either. Adding a few sounds like a good compromise. Anyway, it sounds like you should be all set for now, but we're here if you need us. Have a great week! :)
