Software update fails - Validation failed: The operation couldn't be completed (OSStatus : -676688)

Hello,

I have been having update issues for some time and my workaround to just download the version from the website and install over the top.
But I thought that I would raise it this time as a bug.

This time I am trying to update from 6.8.2 to 6.8.6 and it keeps failing and it just goes back to the "Try Again"
Sometime I get the error: Validation failed: The operation couldn't be completed (OSStatus error: -676688)

Other times I get no error and it just fails to update.

Any idea's or things I can try to get the app update to work, it's a pain to get the pkg from the web each time.

    @JoshuaS - I’m sorry for the trouble! The fact that this keeps happening to you over multiple version upgrades is almost certainly because something on your system is preventing the update from being validated. That might be some security software you installed interfering, or it might be a deeper OS issue. Without taking a closer look, we have no way of knowing, but it's something you should probably look into. FWIW, I don't see anything in those logs you included that point in any particular direction. You might try deleting 1Password completely by quitting 1Password and the Mini by typing ^⌥⌘Q (or just holding down the Control and Option keys as you choose Quit from the 1Password menu) and then dragging the 1Password app to the trash. Empty the trash and then restart your Mac and get a fresh copy of the 1Password installer pkg from our downloads page, and try a completely fresh install. If that doesn't work, however, it's probably time to look at either macOS or security software you may have installed.

    Hi @Lars,

    I have not installed any security software, using just the standard ones that come with OSX

    This time, I stopped the 1Password mini and any other running process, then moved /Applications/1Password\ 6.app out of the way and did an install from the latest version from the website.

    Will see if I get the upgrade issue again.

    Where else does 1Password put it's cached data? Maybe there is something else that needs to be removed.

    @JoshuaS - if by "data" you mean your actual 1Password items, that's inside ~/Library/Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/Data/Library/Data/OnePassword.sqlite. If you mean data related to the functioning of the app, well, you've pulled just about every location 1Password writes to for various aspects of its functionality. I wouldn't delete any of those just yet, unless you get the same issue. Removing or changing any of the above will definitely affect 1Password's functioning and might prevent it altogether, depending on what you change/remove. My advice for now would be "wait and see." Let us know if the problem recurs.

    Hi @Lars,

    Good news, I just did the in-app update from 6.8.6 to 6.8.7 and it's worked. It prompted for my admin password and updated.

    All I did was move the previous version 6.8.2 out of the way and do a clean install of 6.8.6 and it's all back to normal now with updates.
    Fingers crossed the next one works too.
